I love my family and I love my friends, but some friends should NEVER be brought home. I have a lot of family members. I also have a lot of friends. But sometimes I wish I never brought home some of my friends. There’s this one friend in particular that had me convinced that she was trying to take over my life. I cried almost every night, worried that my family would disown me and adopt this friend. I guess I wouldn’t actually call her a friend where as an acquaintance or maybe even a frienemie would be a better word. In my immediate family there’s my mom and dad, Jill and Dean and my sister, Cassie. But I have other family that I’m close with. First there are my cousins, Sam and Callum. Then there’s my grandparents, Molly, Renee, Barbra, and Sam. On top of that there’s my aunts and uncles. I have my Uncle Jack, my uncle John and my aunt Joss. But that’s just my family that I’m close with. I also have many friends that I’m close with. First, there’s my school friends. Ellie, Rockelle, Eden, Effie, Barbara, Olivia and Bailee. Equally important, there’s my friends from dance. Marisol, Lilith, Kacey, Sally, and Jordan. There is one other friend I dance with, her name’s Alia. Alia came to my dance studio when I was 10 years and she was 9 years. We didn’t actually start talking till about 2 years later. That’s when it all started. After Alia and I became friends, she started coming over every once in a while, but then she started coming every weekend and eventually every day, even school nights. I never thought that it might be a problem. After a bit, Alia started becoming friends with my immediate family. She started playing games with my dad, having secrets with my sister and texting my mom. Soon after, when my cousins came to visit, Alia met them and started hanging out with them all the time and texting them. And whenever I had other friends come over, Alia would meet them and start hanging out with them and excluding me. Eventually Alia started coming on family vacations. Alia met my entire family, including my uncles and aunts. Also she came to family dinners too. Every time I went to dinner at a family member’s house, Alia would come. About a year after we became friends, Alia started inviting herself over. And if we had plans, and she couldn’t come, she would get mad at me. Sometimes Alia would tell me she had plans, so I would make plans for myself and she would always get mad at me for having my own plans, or in better words, for having my own life. I didn’t know how to fix it. I didn’t know how to get rid of her. My life was falling apart. I was sure Alia was trying to steal my life. It was like she had a plot to destroy me and take over my life. Years later, when I was in high school and Alia was just starting high school, thing started to settle down. Alia and I went to completely different schools and Alia rarely comes over now. When I see Alia, sometimes she can still bug me, but I now know that no matter what, my family and real friends will always love me. Even if I think someone else is trying to replace me and take over my life.

Antonella’s messy and unorganized, while I’m neat and display perfectionist characteristics. Nobody would ever describe me as, all over the place, which is what she refers herself as. In our families, we are both most like our mothers, as we get these traits from them. Speaking of families, Antonella has three younger siblings: two sisters and one brother. On the other hand, I actually have none. She is more family-oriented. From her answers to certain questions, you can definitely tell she’s close to her family and loves them very much. Antonella is the happiest with her family and going on trips is her favorite activity with them. I love you’s, from her family, are what she considers, the best things ever said to her. I’m not very sentimental like that, so I can’t relate to her responses. My family doesn’t share their affections as openly and we don’t regularly do any group activities. I would actually consider my alone time as my “happy place”, rather than time spent with family, which is quite the opposite of Antonella’s…

I was so excited to see her, so I ran up to her and gave her a hug. She then looked at me with disgust and told me that she had new and better friends so she did not want me to talk to her again. She also said that she could not explain anything else because if they saw her with me, they would kick her out of the group. I had no idea what I did wrong, but I was very upset. I tried to talk to her later in the day, but her new friends kept making fun of me. They would call me names and go out of their way to harass me in the hallways and at lunch. They would call me a loser and accuse me of stalking Tanisha. The dynamic of picking on others outside of the group is similar to what Adler and Adler define as “subjugation.” In Alders Peer Power, they explain the different tactics of out-group subjugation. “They like to pick on people of lower status, it tends to excite them” (Adler and Adler 179). Adler and Adler explain, “One of the main things is to keep picking on unpopular kids because it’s fun to do” (Quoted in Adler and Adler 180). The worst part was that Tanisha went along with all of it. I was so upset that my once best friend thought that I was…

I had not seen my friends since the last school year, but none of my so called “friends” would even acknowledge me. Here I was again, scared out of my wits, at a new school, and looking for friends. I met new people and they took me in like a lost puppy looking for a home, one of them ended up living very near to me. Her name was Simi, she was very nice to me; I thought that Simi would actually be the friend for me. It turns out, I was wrong, Simi used me to get what she wanted and I was gullible enough to cave in to her demands. Later on in the year, I finally (after years of searching) found the perfect group of friends. They were amazing and they felt just like my friends back in Ardmore. From that group of friends, I found my best friend Elizabeth Helms, who is still my best friend…

My first day on the bus, I met a very important person to me. She would soon become the closest friend I would ever have. We shared a name, the interest in video games, and the hobby of drawing. But, other than that, we were very different. She liked white milk and hated chocolate (a.k.a “tainted milk”). I was the opposite. I enjoyed the company of dogs, she was obsessed with cats. But, differences aside, we enjoyed sitting together during lunch and just doodling all over each other's agendas and notebooks. We never really had any classes together, aside from homeroom together.…

One of my close friends is one of those people whose personality thrived when she was present in a social setting with a variety of people to affiliate with. Once we got into college she was determined to rush a sorority, because she felt that she needed to meet more people, associate with different types of people, and to be a part of something to make her college experience. She felt that if she did not rush, she would be alone and would not have a great time and succeed in college. Then about a couple months ago, she was going through a very though time. At that time, nothing seemed to be going right for her. Her grandfather was in and out of the hospital, her grades were slipping, and her family was not very close at the time. So, she began to turn to me and her sorority sisters even more for advice and spent tons of time with us. Those couple of months her need for affiliation with certain types of people was very high. She became happier and did better in school, when we would form study groups with her, lunch dates, and etc; where she was not alone.…

It was not until a couple months into the school year that I realized how my friend was changing me into someone I did not like. The friend decided to try out partying, since she was now in high school and felt the need to be associated with the typical high school stereotype. From going to parties she began to make new friends, discover drinking, and become boy obsessed. I even noticed that she started bullying other kids in our grade. At first I went along with her and did not say anything. I would ignore her partying, ignore the drinking, pretend I was interested in a bunch of boys, and even listen to all the mean gossip, feeding in my own. At times she would try and get me to come to the…

At recess me and Katya would hang out together, and one day, Emily asked if she could play with us, I said “of course!” but as soon as I said that, Katya gave me the most evil glare. Emily and her became arch enemies. They are the funniest people I know and still have me laughing today. Sometimes we would just look at each other and start laughing. That's how good our relationship was. Then the next year Chase left FASE. Class became boring in the beginning of the year. Then when we reflected on funny past moments things started to feel the same. That same year I became friends with two people I used to low-key bully. Their names are Cheyenne Combs, Chei-Ayn Mikell. They are like the sisters I wish I had. I also became best friends with who I used to think was an annoying little girl. Makayla moved to Japan and came back and irked me so much, but I didn't mind it after a…

I made some good friends that I would still know for many years, but my awkwardness persisted. I stopped drawing as much, and instead spent more time reading and playing games. My favorite book genre at the time was fantasy and fiction (And still is, mostly). I enjoyed how fantasy stories laid out the story for the audience, but still left it up to the reader to interpret the words and form the imagery in their own mind. As for my favorite games, I enjoyed games with an excellent story, or games that allowed creative freedom. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of games would only last a few more years. But I still had my books. Anyways, near the end of my time at Edendale, I made some good friends. Some of them I met at school, and others I met on the internet (from mutual interests). There was no real major development around this time, so lets jump into my high school…

Four days after I got a message from an old friend named Sonia asking me if I still lived in the yellow house with the cool ramps, I responded, “Yes? Why?” I didn’t get a response after till 20mins later I saw her walking to my porch with roses in her hand, I opened the door and gave her this weird, shocking, confused look. I didn’t mean to but I haven’t spoken to Sonia after 5th grade not because we got in a huge fight or that we were too cool to talk to each other, we just both went with different crowds. I welcomes her in and she gave me and hug and said that she wanted to stop by because she knew how much my sister meant to me and that she thought it was right for her to come here and show her respects in person than through via internet.
