The main reason for the colonists to organize collectively and revere against Britain was taxation without representation. Boston was being treated very cruel and unjust. Great Britain had ordered for
Boston’s port to be completely shut up, leaving them with limited supplies making people go hungry and cold. Samuel Adams says “Now therefore is the time when all should be united in opposition to this violation of the liberties of all” (charter letter of the Boston committee of correspondence). The goal that Great Britain was trying to achieve was to divide the colonies and have separate attacks for each colony. In defense of Great Britain’s actions, Sam Adams wanted the colonies to boycott trades with England. All of the colonies needed to contribute to this boycott, because one colony will not be able to compare against such an enormous and unlimited power.
In history people need to break away from their home country and have their own representation. If the government is not helping the people they have the right to throw off such government. Great Britain was not treating the colonies how they should have been treated so they needed to break free from their power. The colonists in a way felt like slaves to Great Britain. They were being highly over taxed for reasons that did not really have anything to do with them. The colonists would rather die fighting to be freemen then have to live under the rule of Great Britain. “Our cause is just. Our union is perfect. Our internal resources are great… and being with one mind resolved to die freemen rather than to live slaves”(A Declaration by the Representatives of the United Colonies of North-America).
These are some of the major factors for the colonies to unite as one and rebel against Great Britain. Without the colonies uniting they would have been ruled crucially and had no representation from Britain. The colonies cared for each other and came together as one to go against Great Britain. No one colony could do it by itself.
