Main Themes In The Great Gatsby

Themes. Themes everywhere. That basically sums up the first chapter of The Great Gatsby. You see all these themes more clear as you read the book. These wonderful themes just so happen to be about the past, about wealth, and about love. First off we’re going into the past. Gatsby was not always rich. Gatsby had a rich friend, though. Dan Cody, was his name, and honestly he was more a mentor to Gatsby. Gatsby learned a lot about acting like a gentleman from him. Cody ended up dying, and he left Gatsby a generous amount of money. Sadly, Gatsby was not able to take that money. Gatsby had decided to become a wealthy and successful man after that had happened. Now, about the theme of wealth. It plays a large part throughout the entire story.
