Tyler Chase Harper, a high school sophomore, was sent to the principal’s office for violating the dress code. He was wearing a T-shirt which contained statements that disparaged the homosexual community. Chase filed suit in federal court claiming that the school violated his First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and religion, as well as rights protected by the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses under the federal Constitution and the California Civil Code.…
Charlotte City Council filed a case to ensure that visitors, workers, and residents will not be discriminated from any aspect. Governor McCrory signed House Bill 2 that blocked the local governments from passing act with nondiscrimination defending for the LGBT citizens and needs transgender citizens to use bathrooms and locker rooms that align with their biological sex. Based on the case, the Charlotte City Council approved the suggested amendments to the city’s Nondiscrimination Ordinances on February 22, 2016. The amendments added family status, gender expression, sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status to the list of the protected traits in the previous Nondiscrimination Ordinances. However, the Nondiscrimination…
Recently, some disturbing information was brought to my attention about one of Lyman Highschool's staff members. While in one of the restrooms I oveheard a convorsation about one of the theachers here at Lyman: Mrs. Neris. The other students were talking about a transgender student (who I personally do not know) and one of the mentioned that Mrs. Neris had given that student a referal for using the boy's restroom. (the student is originally female.) I was absolutely shocked, disgusted, and appalled. I felt so bad for that student. I can't imagine how embarassing and belittling that could feel. I know that a main goal of lyman higschool is to create a safe and comfortable learning environment where students can feel accepted…
One of the most debated current events that have had a hold on America and the world are the prisons of Guantanamo Bay. Since the opening of the prisons there have been reported stories of torture on prisoners, inmates being force fed and due process rights being taken away. In this essay, we will examine Guantanamo Bay from the beginnings, to the legal issues by reviewing landmark Supreme Court cases, to the world wide opinions and finally the future of GITMO. After much research, we will review how I came to my belief, that the holding of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay is unconstitutional and that the torture must be stopped immediately.…
In 2017 one year later under the Trump Administration, the guideline reversed and now leaves educations unsure about transgender student’s rights under the law (“Title IX,”2018). Though Title IX may have had some pros and cons throughout the years, overall it had made a great and positive impact on society as a…
Having done this research, I understand that gender neutral bathrooms are desired and should be legal everywhere in the United States and around the world. According to Heartland Trans Wellness Group, places with multiple person gender neutral bathrooms report no complaints, no harassment, and no violence (Yokoyama). The safety of a gender neutral restroom actually does not depend on the use of different genders in the same restroom, but instead depends on the consciousness of people regardless of gender. The idea of switching to or adding gender neutral public bathrooms might feel strange to an amount of people at first; but these changes will go a long way toward improving the lives, health and safety of transgender individuals. Transgender people have the rights to feel comfortable using public restrooms. As I end my exploratory essay, I want to say that we all are created equal. However, some of us have less equality of opportunity than others. It’s time to make a…
Members from the LGBT community are protesting over this “new racism”. Transgender men and women want to be able to use any bathroom they like and if they can’t, they want to have same sex restrooms. Many would argue this is a convoluted subject that no one can’t really determine what is right or wrong. A question to consider for same sex restrooms is, why is the comfort of people in public restrooms privileged over others? While people from the opposing side are question the rape of women and children because a minority of people want to feel comfortable in non-gender…
One case that relates to our industry, is when a transgender man K.S, who works at a resort spa as a massage therapist who is in the middle of transitioning from male to female, was requested by his employer to massage a client who requested for male massage therapist. K.S, has reluctantly asked his employer for a new name tag (male to female). But, his employer denied K.S with a new name tag unless K.S obtained a court order name change or gender change on his driver’s license. Under K.S’ rights under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which made it illegal to discriminate based on gender. According to Transgender Law Center Staff Attorney Matt Wood, “Cases like this one are becoming increasingly common and show the significance of TLC’s recent victory in the Macy v. Holder EEOC decision. K.S. lives in a state where there is no explicit state law prohibiting gender identity discrimination in employment. Because of Macy, K.S. was able to show his employer that federal law protects transgender workers and prohibits the company from treating him differently than other men in his workplace. I’m proud we were able to help empower K.S. as well as the more than 2,000 transgender and gender non-conforming people who contact our legal helpline every…

The biological warfare created an immeasurable impact on the indigenous communities that almost wiped them out completely, although this maltreatment has reduced immensely the taunts being experienced by the indigenous people of Oaxaca continue to torment them; nonetheless, art has become a symbol of the resistance of their human rights. The eugenics movement appeared to no longer exist in society by the 1930’s however, it was documented that 42 percent of Native American women were still being sterilized during the 1970’s. The Native American community is a subgroup that has high rates of reproduction, but unfortunately this community has a large percentage of their people living in…
Fricke v. Lynch was a court case in Rhode Island. Aaron Fricke was prevented from bringing his same-sex date to prom by his principal (Richard Lynch). He prevented him from bringing his date because he felt that the students would not approve. He felt that Fricke and his date would be harmed. The court ruled that students should not be prevented from participating in school events that are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT). The staff was also told to protect the students from harassment. Even though the principal made his decision out of safety reason you cannot ban students from participating in events because their sexual orientation is with the people of same-sex. Still today schools around the world still have teens being harassed for being a homosexual.…
Nowadays, in the modern world, gender has become an ambiguous concept where there is only a very thin line between how a person’s gender identity is classified as male or female. Although female is expected to be “feminine” and male is expected to be “masculine”, indeed, people gender identity does not always correspond with their sexual orientation. Recently, the transgender “bathroom bill” has become a controversial topic that raises many strong opinions and intensive arguments in Texas. Texas lawmakers have spent a lot of time debate how public restroom should be used appropriately. The bill addresses that people in public schools and government buildings are required to use restroom that corresponds with their biological gender, and thus,…
Prisoners rights have come a long way from what they were in the 1800’s, prisoners back then had no rights they were abused and mistreated and the prison officials did whatever they wanted to prisoners and they had no say. During the 1800’s prisoners were kept in unsatisfactory conditions that were unclean, unsafe, falling apart and underfed they were giving small portions of bread, it seemed as they were being teased with the food. There punishments were harsh and unruly, they were beaten to death and there was no one to blame for it or be punished when things like that happened.…
Transgender American’s have been denied an extremely basic human right for far too long the right to use the bathroom that they correctly identify with. The debate has been front and center recently in the media with certain ‘bathroom bills’ being brought to light. This has created a stigma that transgender Americans compromise the privacy and security of gender conforming Americans while occupying a college campus bathroom. Courts continue to discourse this issue, while certain states introduce new ways to keep the bathrooms closed off to transgender’s. The American people need to stand with our transgender community members and demand gender neutral bathrooms. They deserve access in all building and resident hall as well as separate male…
February 2180, I was 20 years old little shaver, Earth had become a living hell; earthquakes don't stop, deaths are hastily accumulating , caustic countries had drowned deep in the oceans. It had become a killing frenzy. The media was talking about new shelters available in space, it was taken as a fabrication at first, but formerly rich prosperous families really migrated to settle in their new homes, on new lands, on a new PLANET. Unfortunate people like me kept decamping to save their lives on Earth, where it had turned into a deserted ruins.…
