First day of classes, I remember putting on my most professional attire and taking a look in the mirror. I had no doubt, this campus was the place for me to be. When I was brought in the International Center office to learn about my new job, as I shook hands and made eye contact with the staff members, I felt welcomed, I felt that 5,164 miles from home, were insignificant. The job itself, thought me many things professionally, and gave me the chance to interact with hundreds of international students from across the globe.

Two months later of daily commitment, I had recruited 100+ students to be part of the Brazilian Student Organization, and the only Brazilian was me. I developed relationships with so many people on that first month, got to understand and get to know who were those students that I said hi every morning. Got to know many of these students on a personal level , and they were the ones who inspired me to do even more. Within months, I was the president of the International Business Student Organization by

I was very reserved when I first started high school, but after attending a leadership training conference in 2011, my personality, my confidence, and my overall life outlook changed for the better. Ever since, I have returned to that conference each summer as a counselor in order to help others find their voices as well. At around the same time, I began working at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe, helping customers, preparing products for sale, taking specialty orders, and assisting in regular tasks. After about three years at the bakery, I headed up to Connecticut for college as an Honors student, undecided in terms of a major. It entailed me taking many classes across multiple departments, getting involved in several clubs, and attending diverse lectures, but after freshman year, I realized my true interests lie in business, specifically management information systems.…

Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…

My rite of passage was coming to Randolph-Macon. As I arrived at Randolph-Macon College on September 1st to begin my freshman year of college, I could not do anything but shake from being so nervous. My parents kept telling me that everything would come together and I would fit right in. I had never felt so out of place. Coming from a small private school, with a graduating class of 30, I could not bear to meet a freshman class that was as bigger than my hometown or my k-12 school. It was like I was a nightmare and no matter how many times I pinched myself, I could not wake up. I was trapped here without any friends or a vehicle to escape.…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…
