Make a Wish Foundation create hope and positive emotions for children suffering serious illnesses by granting wishes of these children. A study was conducted by Anat Shoshani, Keren Mifano and Johanna Czamanski-Cohen to see if the efforts of Make a Wish Foundation actually benefited children. They got a group of sixty six children all with an initial diagnosis of life threatening cancer. Thirty two children were assigned to the Make a Wish intervention and thirty four children were in the control group. All children completed measures of psychiatric and health-related symptoms, positive and negative affect, hope, and optimism pre-intervention and post-intervention. After the baseline data were collected they were interviewed and made wishes that they wanted to come true. These wished were granted 5 – 6 months after the baseline data were collected so that it fuel anticipation and excitement for the event. The post intervention assessment was 5 weeks after the wishes were granted. What they concluded from the post intervention assessment was that the children in the intervention group, the group that got their wishes granted, exhibited significant reduction in general distress, depression, and anxiety symptoms, improved health-related quality of life, hope, and positive affect compared to decrease in positive affect and no significant changes in the other measures in the control group. Make a Wish Foundation really does make a difference in the lives of terminally ill
