Making an Unoccupied Bed

Making an unoccupied bed is one of the first tasks you will need to learn as you train to become a certified nurse. Mastering this procedure may take some time and practice, but it will likely become second nature after you have clocked several hours as a nurse. 1 Wash your hands and put on a pair of gloves.

2 Make sure the bed is in a flat position. If it is an adjustable bed, raise it to a high position, but lower the bed rails.

3 Remove all of the used bed linens including the pillow and pillow case, and place all except the pillow in the laundry bag or basket. Avoid letting any soiled linens touch your uniform.

4 Clean and dry off the plastic-encased mattress if it is dirty. Take off and throw away your gloves and wash your hands again.

5 Put the mattress pad on the bed (if one is included), straightening it so that it lies smooth.

6 Tuck in one edge of the bottom sheet, starting at the head of the bed and moving to the foot to tuck in the rest of the sheet.

7 Cover the entire length of the bed with the top sheet. The hem should reach the edge of the mattress's head.

8 Put the blanket over the top sheet, centering it on the bed approximately 7 inches down from the top sheet's hem.

9 Place the bedspread and center it over both the top sheet and blanket, allowing enough of it to cover a pillow at the top of the bed.

10 Join all the hems together diagonally at the lower corner of each linen, then spread them together over the bed and let them hang down.

11 Insert the pillow into the pillowcase, and put the pillow at the top of the bed with the pillow case's open end facing away from the door.

It illustrates the power of the quilt to connect the speaker to other lives in her family. As previously noted, the yellow, white, and brown shades on the quilt resembles the colors of the skin tones of her family. Therefore, the quilt is an active representation of the people in her family that the speaker identifies with and is a part of. The gestures of “caressing” by the imaginary fingers of the colors of the quilt represent the intimacy and trust that the blanket evokes. It suggests that the speaker’s heritage is deeply close to her. This gentle motion of stroking that the speaker hopes will ease her transition into death “into the silence,” along with the wish that she would like to die under the quilt may symbolize the intentions of living for and taking the values of her culture and history with her in…

I make sure that it’s even on both sides. Before picking up my saddle, I make sure that everything is out of the way so that nothing gets caught underneath the saddle. Once I do that, I pick my saddle up and place it gently on her back. I make sure that it’s in the center of her back and not on her shoulders. I take the stirrup, breast collar, girth, and back cinch off the top of the saddle. I go back to the left side of my horse and reach under her belly to grab the girth. I put the latigo through the ring on the girth and tighten it. I then reach under her belly again to grab the back cinch. I slip the billet through the ring and put it on the third hole. I walk over to the right side of her and undo the breast collar and wither strap. I then attach the breast collar onto the saddle and girth so that it goes across her chest and the wither strap goes over her…
