Some of the most integral parts of our society are the internet and heroes. Why the internet and heroes? What connects the two? Well, the answer is simple: popularity. In this day and age, the internet is a device that consumes most of our time. All of us are on the internet more than we care to admit and we all enjoy watching and catching up on what’s relevant, popular, and exciting. So, how do heroes come in? Simple, heroes have always been a popular and important part of our culture. Our society has always been drawn not just with the hero, but the his/her journey. Someone, who defeats evil and is kind and righteous. The type of person to always fight for what’s right and defy all
the odds by overcoming adversity to become brilliant and happy. And what better way to able to find such heroes than with the internet. In fact, one of the internets and people’s most recent and remarkable heroes is Malala Yousafzai. Yousafzai’s story is that of a 15 year old girl’s fighting for the right to an education using only her voice and a blog. It was with her entries that she defied the Taliban to raise not only her voice, but of all the girls in Pakistan who wanted to go to school. However, her fight was halted when she was attacked and shot in the head. It was then that Yousafzai became not only a hero, but a symbol of Women’s Rights. Her story spread through the internet and all media platforms and she became the people’s hero. After Yousafzai's survival, she thrived and became and became an activist for girl’s rights. It’s been five years since her attack and during that time Yousafzai has done amazing things. In November 2012, she launched herself on the social media platform Twitter. Ever since then, she’s been using her page @MalalaFund to continue to promote her organization The Malala Fund and Women’s Rights. She continues her fund and activism by using her banner photo, retweets/hashtags, and links to connect with her audience.
