Malcolm’s childlife was pretty scary and dangerous. His father Earl Little was involved with the civil rights stuff, which causes a lot of enemies. (Melton,2017,Feb10) When Malcolm was little, his family's house in Lansing, Michigan was burned the ground by a nation called The Black Legion. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Two years later, his father Earl Little’s body was found lying down and across the town’s train tracks. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) The police labeled his death an accident. The Little’s new the members from the Black Legion are really the ones to blame for his death. Malcolm’s mother Louise, had a mental breakdown and she ended up being committed into a mental institution. (Melton,2017,Feb10) The kids, including Malcolm, were separated into different orphanages and foster homes. (Coates,2014,Feb09) Eventually, Malcolm and a long term friend of his moved to Boston and ended up getting arrested, convicted, etc. on burglary charges. Malcolm was sentenced to ten years in prison until he was granted parole after serving only seven years. She took care of all the kids. His father Earl was an outspoken, kind-hearted, baptist minister and a very strong supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. (Melton,2017,Feb10) Earl Little’s involvement in the Civil Rights caused death threats from a white supremacist Organization called The Black legion, which forced him and his family to move two times. (Coates,2014,Feb09) Malcolm X became interested with this so he started studying the nation of Islam leader, Elijah Muhammad. The Nation of Islam, also known as Black Muslims, attracted many followers, mostly from prisons. The nation of Islam worked hard to keep African Americans from empowering themselves, achieving political, economic, and social success. (Melton,2017,Feb10) Malcolm got voted and elected as minister and national spokesman for the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X attracted a ton of new members because people thought he was driven, intelligent, has good charisma and conviction.

Malcolm’s wife, Betty Shabazz was born May 28th, 1934 in Detroit Michigan. She was an American educator and Civil Rights Advocate. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Malcolm and Betty met when she moved to New York City to be a Nurse. They joined the Nation of Islam together and got married in 1958. In 1964, Malcolm and Betty left the nation of Islam. (Melton,2017,Feb10) On February 14th, 1965, Their home in East Elmhurst New York, where Malcolm, Betty, and their four daughters lived in, was firebombed and destroyed. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) The family got extremely lucky and ended up escaping. One week later at a speaking engagement in the Manhattan’s Audubon Ballroom, three gunman forced Malcolm X onstage and shot him fifteen times. (A&E Networks Television,2017,Feb09) He died at the New York's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. (Melton,2017,Feb10) On February 27th, 1965, Over fifteen hundred people attended Malcolm's funeral at the Faith temple church of god in christ. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Later on that year, Betty gave birth to their beautiful twin daughters. Malcolm's killers were guilty and arrested for first degree murder in March 1966. The three men were also members of the Nation of Islam. Malcolm's meeting violence with violence. Malcolm was born into a large financially struggling family, and dealt with extreme racial discrimination ever since he was young. He stood up for his rights and also other peoples he fought for. (A&E Networks Television,2017,Feb09) Malcolm got involved with hustling, prostitution, drug dealing, burglary, etc. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) He dealt with so much as a child, but he fought back for not only his rights, but also everyone else's as well. Malcolm X’s prison sentence was when his whole life changed. He first learned about The Nation of Islam while he was in prison. (A&E Networks Television,2017,Feb09) Malcolm saw separatism as self-determination, good judgement on trusting, depending, etc. on whites to achieve black goals. (Melton,2017,Feb10) President Kennedy had asserted that the country faced a moral crisis in regard to black people as citizens and that it was the task of the United States to make a great change toward equality and freedom for black people. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Malcolm X had worked so hard on stuff like this, fighting for these types of rights. Malcolm X underwent a big transformation in his efforts to change social conditions. He had a personal change and a change in his beliefs. His “education” was a second aspect that gave Malcolm X’s background a greater success. (Melton,2017,Feb10) He was able to appeal to ghetto residents the way no other civil rights leader could. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Human rights were not given easily to colored people back then. Malcolm's house has been blown up, his dad was murdered, he’s been discriminated against. Not only him, but other black people and his family as well. (Melton,2017,Feb10) Malcolm fought for human rights for discriminated, colored, minority peoples. (Coates,2014,Feb09) Malcolm read about different races, inequality, human rights, etc. He spent his time in the library studying and learning more about the civil rights, etc. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) the more he read, the more he wanted to do something about it and actually make a change in life. Malcolm wanted better education for all races, colors, sizes, etc. (Melton,2017,Feb10) He wanted equal rights. Malcolm never received an education past the eighth grade. He taught himself how to read, write, etc, while he was prison. Malcolm spent all day reading, writing, etc in prison. He only got 3 to 4 hours of sleep every night. (A&E Networks Television,2017,Feb09) He kept practicing until he learned and self-educated himself. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) Malcolm fought against injustice and inequality. In conclusion, we all learned a lot from Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam. He started out a man who pretty much came from nothing, and then turns his whole life around and becomes one of the most influential and controversial type of man in the history of our nation. (Coates,2014,Feb09) Malcolm was a strong believer and supporter for the equality for African Americans in the United States. (Melton,2017,Feb10) Malcolm X stood up for what he believed in, no matter who or what tried to stand in his way. Malcolm set out to accomplish his life as an advocate for the rights of not only the African American people, but also the rights for the entire human race. (Coates,2014,Feb09) As Malcolm matured and got a better education, he outgrew the Nation of Islam. (Melton,2017,Feb10) He became more famous than the group, more international, and more ideologically evolved in things. (Mintz,International Business Times,2015 Feb. 26) He gave speeches with the civil rights movement leaders about racial integration, etc. According to a New York post, it says, “Even his sharpest critics recognized his brilliance, often wild, unpredictable and eccentric, but nevertheless possessing promise that must now remain unrealized” (Mackenzie, B.
