Stereotypes are all around us. In today’s world stereotypes are frowned upon and seem to have no bearing on the limitations one can surpass, but they did not come out of nowhere. Something had to have happened for these stereotypes to arise. Gender stereotypes are some of the most controversial stereotypes, one being that males should be in charge instead of women.
Since the founding of America took place in 1776, a male has been in charge of this country. All forty three, forty four including President Elect Donald Trump, presidents have been males. At the workplace females are starting to gain more and more control. For example, the smoothie place I work at just had a change in owner ship. The current owner of my work is now a female. She started off as just an average worker like I am. Then, she became the manager of the smoothie place, and now, she is the primary owner. This showcases how women are able to work there way up and can also be in control and in charge. The previous owner was a male, and now my boss was over to overcome that and become the owner herself.
My elementary school is the exception to the rule that males are always in charge. The past three out of four principals of Lander Elementary have been females. Most of them started off as teachers, but they were able to move up from their positions to something greater with more authority. Creating the stereotype that men should be in charge over women comes from the majority of high ranking positions being given to men, but this is more of a hasty generalization than a stereotype. This “stereotype” and hasty generalization is a myth. Over the past decade women have proved themselves and have gained authoritative positions.
