Statement by Human Resource Minister
This current issue discussed on the recent statement made by the Human Resource Minister, stated that Malaysians will have to pay more to hire Indonesian maids. Due to this statement, it created shock to the employers who had been guaranteed that this issue had been resolved in the Bandung Memorandum in May last year. Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam added, that Malaysia could expect to pay to hire Indonesian maids as maid agencies in the both countries complained regarding the fees which was too low for them to make profit.

Due to this statement, employers want the Ministry to respect the agreement signed between Malaysia and Indonesia instead of concerning to fulfil the demand of the maid agencies.

According to Malaysian Maid Employers Association (MAMA), it stated that the parties involved should not break the promises on the deal claiming that the fee was too low. It questioned that what is the purpose of signing an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) if they do not observe, respect and implement it. On top of that, Engku Ahmad, President of the Malaysian Maid Employers’ Association said that if the fee was not realistic or practical, the ministry should address it earlier. In addition, there were 63 maids arrived after MoU was signed. The welfare, salary and scope of duties were fine and this showed that it was a workable arrangement. Memorandum of Understanding

Indonesian has offered several options but the proposals may not go down well which the (MAMA) blames for the shortage as they were not willing to settle for smaller profits. The questions
