Learning Outcome 1: Understand How to Plan Work and be Accountable to Others
1.1
The purpose of planning my work is so that I can set a clear period of when things need to be started and completed by, this will help me prioritise my work and organise it on a day-to-day basis.
The benefits:
I would be able to see clearly what is left to do
I will be able to avoid doing the work twice
I can keep a clear record of what has already been done Having a visible and accessible plan allows my manager to see an overview of my work and to check that I have understood everything that needs to be done in order for the job to be completed on time and to a good standard. This keeps me accountable because he can check it and see how far I am and if I am meeting my targets and deadlines.
1.2
If targets are unrealistic, they will never be achieved.
The person who is trying to reach the target will always be under constant pressure and more likely to make mistakes.
The best way to set a realistic target is to discuss how long (realistically) would the job take, what stages will need to be completed to reach the target and if there are any other obstacles that may affect completing the target e.g. other work that needs to be prioritised.
1.3
Look through the different stages of the task or project and estimate the time it will take to complete each step. This way you will be able to set a timescale for the entire task, and decide on a date, and then start working towards completion on that day. This will help motivate yourself and spend the required time working on it, to complete it at the right time.
To achieve your target, make sure you
Decide how much time you will need to spend each week to achieve your task on time.
Keep the date on your diary, so it helps you to be focussed.
Have a record of all steps that are completed towards achievement, this will help to motivate
