Today, many Americans are affected by health care decisions made without their prior knowledge. More than likely most Americans are unsure how those decisions are decided and who is responsible for making those decisions that ultimately affect how health care is administered (Kongstvedt, 2016). Examining my policies with the Veterans Administration and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia one would naturally assume that these areas are meeting my health care needs. Tow out of pocket expenses to consider are prescription drugs and the cost of out of network providers. The Veterans Administration provides services based upon income on a sliding scale. Currently prescriptions are provided to me at no cost however Blue Cross Blue Shield there is a four dollar co pay and the policy has different tier levels. There is no premium per say at the Veterans Administration however there is a sixty-dollar premium for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Blue Cross Blue Shield also has different copayments per services being provided such as doctor’s visits, lab services, and x-ray’s just to name a few.
