Manufactoring Process
INTRODUCTION
This lab experiment required students to learn and participate on the usage of a manual lathe machine in order to shape a given raw material into a given specified end product. The class was divided into groups of 4 students. Each group will be assigned to one manual lathe machine and given three pieces of cylinder shaped mild steel rod and a schematic diagram to. A lab technician will brief the students in the usage of the machine and the processes required to machine the specified parts, then the students will be required to machine the parts themselves.

PURPOSE OF EXPERIMENT

The purpose of this experiment is to learn and realize between the knowledge from book and the practically experiment in lab section. By practical work, we can actually experience the work process from basic things which are the basic capabilities, basic machine parts, basic safety and rule.

Basic Capabilities

The goal of this SOP and the accompanying “training” is not to make you a lathe operator/machinist, but to make sure you can safely do certain tasks. It applies to all students, staff, faculty and others who wish to use the machine shop! This SOP should be read, fully understood, and reviewed at the machine with the Shop Manager. Every machine user will have to take the “Basic User Safety Test”, demonstrate “hands-on” proficiency and then sign the “BASIC USER CLEARANCE FORM & SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE LOG” before being approved to operate the machine. The allowable machining tasks will be limited to those covered in this SOP. There is much more to using a lathe than what is covered in this SOP. Always ask before doing a new operation!

    User Manual Critique

The first criteria I used is audience recognition. This manual is written for landscape professionals who have some experience using this type of machinery in the past. The terminology that is used throughout the manual suggests that the user knows what the overall operation of the machine is for. This is a good idea because if the machine is not used properly it could have the potential to be dangerous, causing injury or even death. This is also a problem because if someone is not familiar with the machine and attempts to use it the manual could confuse them, and they may not assemble the machine correctly, and not follow all the safety warnings that are in the manual. This could also be a dangerous situation since the chemicals that are used in conjunction with the machine could be hazardous.…

Everybody needs to be aware of potential hazards like dangerous equipment or substances so that their work area can be made safe and eliminated accidents. People have to be trained to use all machinery which is needed at work so that it is used correctly and does not pose a risk to yourself and others. Identifying and following procedures should be practised in the work place. Organizational practices that promote safety can also help a company establish competitive advantage by reducing costs of absenteeism due to accidents and complying with safety laws. People who are working in our company have to recognise the risks when using substances such as toner or correcting fluids. These should be dearly labelled so they are not used for other purposes. They should be securely closed to reduce risk of leaking and they should be safety stored so they are not knocked over by mistake. All office equipment has to be used as intended and safety procedures have to be conducted i.e. laminator should be used only to secure important documents and cannot be touched after use as it may be hot. Do not put your hands too close to shredder machine as you may be hurt and only waste confidential papers can be placed into it.…
