Maplerose Monologue
Dedicated to my friends and family, and to all the authors of the great books that I have read.

On the third day of September, in the town of Maplerose, a girl was riding home on a bike of the finest, fiery, fall, orange. She was zipping down the leaf covered streets, like a floating gypsy, because her bike blended in so well. Alice Mint was the girl biking down the streets. It was the first day of school, and she had just made her daily trip to the town’s public library. Now she was going to the park.
Maplerose’s community park was 20 acres of grass, trees, and in this time of year, leaves. All the magicians, fortune tellers, and gypsies, who came to Maplerose for the summer would set up at this particular park in Maplerose. This week, was the week they

Grenhow told her.
Alice put on the glasses and looked in the ornate gold rimmed mirror that was to the side of Mr. Grenhow’s desk.
“Do you like them?” asked Mr. Grenhow.
“Very much!” Alice replied.
“They look like a very lovely pair of glasses,” Penelope Mint said, “Do they cost much?”
“Oh no, they are a very old pair that need to be used, so it won’t cost you a thing.” Mr. Grenhow assured Alice’s mother, “I have the prescribed lenses already in the glasses, and they are good to go. Here is a spare pair, along with the cases for them. I’m sorry that the cases are so old. I could trade out the cases for newer ones if you would like.”
Mr. Grenhow handed Alice the 2 cases, one with the spare pair inside of it.
“I think they’re beautiful,” Alice answered, looking at the small rectangular wooden boxes, that held the glasses. They were treasure chests fit for the treasure that went inside them.
“Thank you very much,” Alice’s mom told Mr. Grenhow, “We’ll have to go, because George, Alice’s little brother, has a soccer game.”
“Well, thanks for coming. Alice has a check up on the first of November.” Mr. Grenhow told Alice’s mother.
