Mardi Gra
Have you ever thought of what goes on at Mardi Gra, and how it got started?
Mardi Gra’s history and activities include parades, dressing up, Parties and some king cake. This event seems to be very interesting. Mardi Gra dates back to ancient times. In honor of the Roman god “Lupercus” they made Mardi Gra an official festival. Europe adapted this celebration, it then migrated to England, Spain, Germany, France. The french then named this celebration Mardi Gra meaning “Fat Tuesday”. Also in christian religion they call is shrovetide. Meaning to confess, so during this time they confess sins they have made. At the costume ball there is a lot of dancing, another plus is you can dress up as anything you can want to be. After Christmas is the planning of the Gaga Ball. “Carnival is another word for “goodbye meat” “ (Aloian, 2010). This festival starts on January 6 and ends after a week. At the end of the week is officially when Mardi gra starts. The lively and fast music cause people to be on their feet dancing. “Many people come together to builds a float which is then pulled by a vehicles at the festival”2. the floats have different themes to them because they are created by different people with different ideas.
