The Sudden Rise and Fall of Margot Macomber
Did Margot Macomber intentionally kill her husband? Well, is the grass green? Is the sky blue? Yes, and yes she did kill her husband intentionally. The only reason Margot wouldn’t have killed her husband intentionally was if he promised to leaver her or allowed her to divorce him. He wouldn’t do that, however, so she had to get away from him in some way. She had to be able to live the life she really wanted to live, and the only way she could do that was if Francis were dead. Margot killed Francis to be the free-wheeling harlot that everyone knew she really was.
Francis caged Margot’s “free” and “independent” soul. He didn’t like her having his money and sleeping with the other random men she met throughout her life. Right after Margot slept with Wilson and returned to her husband’s bed, he knew that she’d slept with Wilson. He even said to her, “You said if we made this trip that there would be none of that. You promised.” Of course, she had promised, but she broke that promise when their trip had been ruined after his episode with the lion. Margot slept with Wilson to liven up her own trip to Africa, not for anything or anyone else. She must’ve known that her husband would find out, but she followed

To her dismay, however, happily ever after with Wilson didn’t happen in anyway. Wilson antagonized Margot in the end after Francis died. He said nasty things to her about how she went about killing Francis and things of the sort. “Why didn’t you poison him? That’s what they do in England,” and “‘That’s a petty thing to do,’ he said in a toneless voice. ‘He would have left you too.’” Just saying that could’ve been the reason Margot shot Francis. She could have known deep down that Francis had the opportunity to leave her at anytime, and she could have been the one that wanted to leave first. Anything could have been possible with that

Imagine parachutes loaded with chocolate and gum floating down from the heavens. The children of West Berlin deserved the sweet gifts after going through the tragedy of the loss of loved ones and the destruction of their city. Gail Halvorsen was an angel to these children. He delivered candy to the young war survivors. As a young boy Gail Halvorsen would watch beautiful silver airplanes fly high in the sky, going to faraway places. He never imagined that one day he would fly a plane carrying food to the starving boys and girls of West Berlin. Halvorsen arrived in Tempelhof, where he met thirty young children. “Their pride and dignity moved me”, said Lt. Halvorsen. He gave them all he had: two sticks of gum, and that's where the journey began. I firmly believe that Gail Halvorsen is an American leader that influenced many lives in Berlin after World War II.…

Gatsby and Daisy’s relationship was mainly just a fantasy created by Gatsby. Gatsby imagined this great life that he and Daisy would have together, when in reality, Daisy was married and could not leave her husband. When Gatsby and Daisy did get reunited, their love sparked again, but never took full effect because of Tom. The idea of “fake love” is also seen in George Wilson and Myrtle’s relationship. Although they were married, they did not have a true romantic relationship. George only married Myrtle because he did not try to make a better life for himself. George and Myrtle were on the same economic level and social class: poor. Wilson loved Myrtle to an extent, but he did not have a deep passion for her as Gatsby did for…

Writing has always been one of the most crucial aspects of a person’s daily life simply because it is everywhere. As a few examples, it is present when sending a letter, writing an email, posting on social media, publishing research documents, generating a code, etc. Yet, despite the unique goal a specific written piece might have, in general, it has the purpose of communicating something, an idea, to someone else, an audience. Therefore, how well something is written should be assessed as a matter of its effectiveness to communicate clearly its core idea.…

In “The Great Gatsby” by Scott Fitzgerald, Myrtle Wilson plays a role in not only her own death, but also the tragic demise of J. Gatsby. In chapter 2 she is described as “in her middle thirties and faintly stout” (29). Myrtle Wilson is the wife of degenerate garage owner George Wilson. She expresses her feelings for her decision on marrying George as “The only crazy I was was when I married him. I knew right away I made a mistake” (34-35). As a result, she bemoaned being married to her husband. She “thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasn’t fit to lick my shoe” (34), feeling as if her husband George wasn’t good enough for her. By her words, she displays her true feelings for her husband. This showed the character is selfish…

Similar to Jordan, Tom Buchanan’s dishonesty allows him to achieve a desired result, yet he differs in the sense he admits the truth when necessary to preserve his relationships. On their way to New York, Tom introduces Nick to his mistress Myrtle, confirming Jordan’s earlier gossip. Due to their state of drunkenness, Myrtle’s sister Catherine declares “it’s really his wife that’s keeping them apart. She’s Catholic, and they don’t believe in a divorce.” Confirmed to be untrue by Nick, this false information spread by Tom prompts Myrtle into presuming he cares for her when in fact he does not. He uses brute force to cease her from mentioning Daisy’s name while replenishing her dream that she has finally found a man who posses the ability to…

Secondly, under stress, Daisy is driving at a fast speed when Myrtle jumps in front of the car, and Daisy hit her and took off. Daisy brutally kills Myrtle. “Michaelis and this man reached her first, but when they had torn open her shirtwaist, still damp with perspiration, they saw that her left breast was swinging loose like a flap, and there was no need to listen for the heart beneath. The mouth was wide open and ripped at the corners, as though she had choked a little in giving up the tremendous vitality she had stored so long”(145). Daisy seems like a sweet, innocent woman but she proves instead to be selfish. She commits such a nasty and brutal mistake that the right thing would be for her to take responsibility for it. She doesn’t though, because she’s careless and worries only about herself. At the same time, Myrtle demonstrates her hope for freedom and to be with Tom as she runs towards the car. She is obviously not happy with George Wilson. Lastly, George becomes so sure Gatsby killed his wife, Myrtle, that he shoots him and after shoots…

Couples destined for doom - Romeo and Juliet, Orpheus and Eurydice, Winston and Julia. In Ernest Hemingway’s “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” Margot and Francis Macomber prove they also fall under this category. However, the two Macomber’s exemplify an uncommon trait in “star-crossed lovers” - long-lasting nonexistent love. In fact, Francis and Margot’s marriage exists and continues solely for the advantages that come from it. Margot stays with Francis because he has “too much money for (her) to ever leave him” (11). She uses Francis’ wealth to keep up her status as a “well kept woman of the beauty and social position,” proving that her matrimony is not because of an attraction to her spouse (1). Francis stays with Margot because she is “too beautiful for…

Wilson is the most fearless of the group. He demonstrates this when he did not hesitate entering into the grass to hunt the lion because it is his duty. He calls out Francis when he informs him of his duty: "But don't go in if you don't want to. This is my shauri now, you know” (Hemingway 16). Wilson’s demonstration of fearlessness unleashes the attraction that Margaret has towards him. He demonstrated these few traditional masculine qualities that it takes to get women. In Tom’s case as he had the fearlessness to look into what Gatsby is and has the audacity to call him out on it. This is an attraction to Daisy. Tom mentions to Jordan that he"made a small investigation of this fellow” (Fitzgerald 48). Daisy is undoubtedly attracted to this man because he has no restraint about what he does and what the outcome is. He has no problem with what the other people are thinking about him. What he says doesn't matter to him, this being a quality that Daisy married him for. This is the third and final quality displayed by men who were able to attract…
