Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey’s Career Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress with an amazing career. She is one of the most popular pop singers of America. Mariah Carey was born in Long Island, New York, on March 27, 1969. Carey was born to Black and Hispanic father, Alfred Carey and Irish opera singer and voice coach mother Patricia Hickey. She has had more number one singles then Elvis and some people say she is the best singer ever. At the age of three she started singing by learning and copying her mother, who was an opera singer. Mariah’s mother began giving her vocal training, and singing quickly became the center of young Mariah. “I can remember when I told myself for the first time: I'm going to be rich and famous. I was about 5 or 6 and in my mother's car, an old green dirty car. My sister was there too. She was humming; she was about 15, she had just gotten married because she was pregnant. We were on a supermarket parking lot, and I was looking at the wealthy people through the window; I told myself I am going to be a star and I'll buy all these things for us.” ( “Mariah Carey Quotations,” n.d., para. 21. Her first public performance was at the age of 6, and she ignored anything that dealt with school to further her dream of becoming a big star. While in high school, Carey often made trips to Manhattan to get into the scene of the professional music industry. After graduating high school Mariah moved to the city sharing an apartment with two friends and attended beauty school, while supporting herself with a variety of low-status jobs Mariah spent as much time as possible to produce her demo tapes. She soon started out in the music business by auditioning as a back up vocalist for Brenda K. Starr. She made it with little difficulty. Mariah soon was able to give one of her demo tapes to the Sony/ Columbia executive Tommy Mottola. He liked the tape so much he tracked her down after the party and gave her a contract with
