Florentine Renaissance era some of his more famous works are “Primavera” and “The Birth of Venus.”. He was born 1445 Florence, Italy- died May 17, 1510, Florence, Italy.May 17, 1510, Florence, Italy. I have chosen “ the discovery of the body of Holofernes” for it has a dark but comical feel when I look at the painting. Like the characters overemphasize expressions on their faces, but the colors are what really brought me in and had me mesmerized.
The colors used in this painting are red, copper, dark green to moss green, a marvelous color of’ ultramarine’ which is a luminous rich blue color shade originally accomplished arising out of lapis lazuli, carbon black, …show more content…
yellow, and white. The vibrant red, royal blue, pure white, and copper are the ones that show the great energy and the strength in the painting. The colors that control where your eyes stay focus on is the shades of reds, blues, and coppers. From viewing this masterpiece nubilous coating acknowledged as “scumble” I feel overwhelmed by how much time and concentration went into this oil painting. The paint application were applied in strokes or “Impasto” is a technique used in painting, where the paint is laid on an area of the surface (or the entire canvas) very thickly, usually thickly enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. Paint can also be mixed right on the canvas. Since the colors are so vibrant the mood is intriguing, but not at all saddened or, happy either; even though there a decapitated body on the canvas what looks to be wrapped in silks and linens.
The painting is what I believe to be a Naturalistic piece for it is an imitation or reproduction of nature in an impression or characteristic. looking like what appears in nature : not looking artificial or man-made.And I enjoy gazing upon its style.
This exceptional representation oil painting is themed on a historically documented parable located in The Old Testament of the Bible “The Book of Judith” (13:10).
It appears as though the bible tells us that a king named Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of Nineveh appointed one of his mighty generals titled as Holofernes to go forth to overpower and conquer his enemies, the Jewish citizens. The Jews are surrounded in Bethulia and are swiftly losing all hope of overcoming the battle to victory. A famine arose and advanced its way through their camps dampening their moods and courage they once had , now only contemplating on their surrender. And then Judith, whom name conveys into “ lady Jew” comes into existent as a gorgeous widow. She accidently hears for surrender from the army and takes it upon herself to rescue the city. Judith sneaks into the dangerous Assyrian camping grounds and persuades Holofernes with her appearance, patiently awaits till he is drunk, picks up his on a sword and commences to removing his head from his body. Judith escapes the camp unharmed and returns to her people victorious, welding in hand the decapitated head of general Holofernes as a souvenir. The regained their strength and raided the Assyrian camp to steer the enemy away from
them.
My interpretation of this piece is humorous , atrocious I see ten characters , I am also including the deceased corpse ,but not the horse. The people in the painting seem to be distressed which they should be for they are about to lose a battle. Two people are crying like they knew him on a deeper level identical to brothers. While the others are thinking about the future in the manner of how are they going to win this upcoming battle? and who killed the general? How did this happen? What do they do now? Where is his head?
