Because their health was weak, Marie and Pierre bicycled, and when they felt better, they went back to work even though they knew that the radium was hurting them. The reason that they kept working with the radium, was to answer Marie’s second question of “Why does it emit this energy?” Because of Marie’s commitment, this led to her death. `On July 4, 1934, Marie Curie died of a blood disease. This blood disease happened because she was around radium too much. It was called aplastic anemia. Although radium could heal diseases and people, it could also kill people, and that is what it did to Marie Curie.
Marie Curie was the first woman to win two Nobel Prizes and she was the first woman to become a professor in France. She lived a widow for 28 years, and both she and her husband ,Pierre Curie, changed the world by discovering radium and changed the medical & scientific world
