At the age of 15, Marilyn dropped out and later married her boyfriend, Jimmy Dougherty. Marilyn briefly worked in a munitions factory and was later discovered as a model. By the time her husband returned from the marines, Marilyn already had a successful career as a model and had changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in preparation for her acting career. Marilyn’s acting career began with a part in a small movie called, “The Asphalt Jungle.” This small movie later lead on to bigger films which later lead her to be the celebrity she was. Her role in Niagara is said to be the beginning of her “star” image. These films not only made her a well-known actress but as a beautiful woman and a huge sex symbol in Hollywood. Throughout her career, Marilyn made a gross amount of 200 million dollars. She also became tired of small roles, so she took the initiative of studying acting with Lee Strasberg. Unfortunately, her anxiety of performing made her physically tired and lead her to drug abuse which would later lead to her death. With a history of drug abuse, Marilyn was found dead in her own home on August 5, 1962 at the age of 36. The reason for her was said to be overdose on drugs but many rumors have floated that her death may have been planned. Other rumors say that she was murdered because of her rumored involvement with President Kennedy. Marilyn’s legacy still lives today in many different industries. She is thought of as a style icon and a great actress. She is also an icon of beauty in Hollywood with many woman recreating her blonde hair, makeup or clothes. Today, she is still thought of as a sex symbol and as someone who was very
