Marine Biology Personal Statement
A marine biologist examines the functions of all living organisms in the sea and estuaries. They are able to conduct multiple experiments and can choose to specialise in various sizes of marine life. I am interested in becoming a marine biologist because sea creatures and science are two of my passions, especially conducting experiments to determine solutions for animal sicknesses.

There are many aspects involved in being a marine biologist, employees are always using numerical and statistical skills to design laboratory and field experiments. They are also responsible for developing programmes that monitor pollution and determine whether environmental impact is caused by natural or human factors. Scuba-diving is the best factor of the occupation and most important. It is crucial to collect samples and assess the effects that new, introduced species have on existing marine life in a particular area.

Employers in this field often look for a range of skills that comprise good written communication and mathematical thinking, analytical and problem-solving ability, as well as team skills. These skills are very important and are practised a lot in marine biology, especially good written communication as you are constantly writing scientific reports on research and information collected. Those who wish to pursue this occupation must complete a Bachelor or Masters Degree in marine biology, depending on the amount of time they want to spend studying. Uni students can apply for this course in Australia at The University of Melbourne, James Cook University, Griffith University and many more. A student such as myself can go on work experience at places such as Reef HQ in Townsville or Ningaloo Reef, which is north of Perth. A PhD is also offered to those wishing to extend their career, this would take roughly 6 years to
