In society, as well as the Marine Corps. good leaders are not born, but made. They are molded and shaped by the challenges and strifes in there life. If a person has the desire and willpower, he can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience.
To inspire Marines and co-workers into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things a leader must be, know, and, do. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through continual work and study. Good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their leadership skills; they are NOT resting on their laurels. Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and skills. Though, not every leader is the same, nor has the same leadership style. They all have at least one goal in common mission accomplishment. Each leader is set to his or her own guidelines. This is also true being in the Marine Corps. As an NCO, the Marine Corps tells you what they expect from you on the very day of your promotion, so everyone is on the same page. They do this through the NCO Creed. In a brief summary, the NCO creed outlines what expectations it has for you to be a leader. On the very fist line of the NCO Creed, it states “I am the backbone of the United States Marine Corps.” those are pretty strong words stating how strong you must be as a leader. The NCO Creed also shows how you should act as a leader, “ I will never forget who i am or what i represent. i will challenge myself to the limit and be ever attentive to duty. i am now, more than ever committed to excellence in all that i do so that i can set the proper example for other Marines.” To be a good leaders, you need to
