The book I chose this week is called "Tjatjakaymatchan (Coyote) A legend from Carmel Valley" by Alex O. Ramirez and is a Native American tale about why the coyote calls into the night. I would categorize this book as fiction because of the talking coyote and fox. I decided to read this book because of my Choctaw heritage and it reminded me that many first people languages and stories are vanishing into the time because they not written down most of the time. The most interesting piece of information that I found was about why this book was published and it was because the writer's friends encouraged him to write down his memories of his Elders so that they would not fade into time. I also thought his illustrations were interesting because unlike…
I read the book Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This book is the first book of The Lunar Chronicles. The most interesting part of the book was that the author put a lot of twists and turns at the end. My least favorite part of the book was when the main character, Cinder, had witness her stepsister’s death. The author wanted us to learn do not judge from the outside but judge what is on the inside. I like this book because the author puts twist on the Cinderella story. Other student would like this book by how the story is in the future. My question, ’’Is she going to escape?”…

I read the book what Happened to Cass McBride. It was a very good book that keeps you on your toes. What I liked most about it though was that you would never expect what happens in the end of the story. I also like that the main character who stayed strong through the whole book and it teaches people who read this, that just when you think it’s over, it’s really not. This is one of my favorite books that I have read.…
With ups and (mostly) downs she experienced but she’s still not giving up until she can fits in and be friends with the PC. This book is entertaining, and meaningful. The author uses third point of view, she’s there as the narrator. Also, she uses language that is so comfortable for teenagers like us to read. It’s not confusing, entertaining, and uses a lot of slang words that we’re familiar to - like “nawt” for not, “ehmagawd” for oh my…
“Have you ever read a book and wanted to be one of the characters”? One of the best books I’ve read this year! A New York Times bestselling novel about a beautiful young woman(Leslie Beaudet) who had a unrevealing secret. In this novel written By Omar Tyree about a college student trying to juggle school, her work as a chef, and the needs of her demanding family. Her Haitian father lives in a homeless shelter, her mother is dying of AIDS, her brother is involved in the drug trade, and her sister a teenage mother of two.…
I had an overall good reaction to this book. My first thought when looking at the cover was that it was going to be boring but as I began reading it, I realized that not only is it not boring, it's actually rather interesting, but it could also help me in my life as well. I have a tendency to over think even the simplest things and when I do make a quick decision, I always second guess myself. "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell is a book that really makes you think about the way you react to things and why you react that way. It shows that the decisions we make quickly are just as good as the ones that require a lot of thought. It explains to us why we should trust our instincts, however, sometimes it's not good to follow…

Their problems are exacerbated by the fact that both Christine and Romulus suffer from mental illnesses at various points in time.…
Innocence is something that everyone reminisces about and remembers fondly, but what happens when someone’s whole life gets put in dire circumstances beyond their control? That innocence once held rapidly diminishes to the point where it is not relevant and there is only one thing relevant, survival. This idea is present in the memoir A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. In this memoir, Beah recalls his story as a young kid thrown into chaos, as he is separated from his family, his friends, and is eventually forced to join the army as a boy soldier . Eventually, he is taken out of the war and becomes a functioning member of society but his innocence is shattered into pieces. It is evident throughout A Long Way Gone, mainly through Beah’s use of…
The novel I read was A Farewell to Arms. It was written by Ernest Hemingway. The overall difficulty reading of this book was easy. Even though the book was uninteresting, it was easy to comprehend. Because of the book being uninteresting it took a while to read.…
He began his new life standing up, surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air. Metal ground against metal; a lurching shudder shook the floor beneath him. He fell down at the sudden movement and shuffled backward on his hands and feet, drops of sweat beading on his forehead despite the cool air. His back struck a hard metal wall; he slid along it until he hit the corner of the room. Sinking to the floor, he pulled his legs up tight against his body, hoping his eyes would soon adjust to the darkness. With another jolt, the room jerked upward like an old lift in a mine shaft. Harsh sounds of chains and pulleys, like the workings of an ancient steel factory, echoed through the room, bouncing off the walls with a hollow, tinny whine. The lightless elevator swayed back and forth as it ascended, turning the boy’s stomach sour with nausea; a smell like burnt oil invaded his senses, making him feel worse. He wanted to cry, but no tears came; he could only sit there, alone, waiting. My name is Thomas, he thought. That … that was the only thing he could remember about his life. He didn’t understand how this could be possible. His mind functioned without flaw, trying to calculate his surroundings and predicament. Knowledge flooded his thoughts, facts and images, memories and details of the world and how it works. He pictured snow on trees, running down a leaf-strewn road, eating a hamburger, the moon casting a pale glow on a grassy meadow, swimming in a lake, a busy city square with hundreds of people bustling about their business.…
“Escape Fire” has given me a new perspective on the current healthcare system we have. Within the movie, there was one major theme that strongly stuck with me: the current healthcare system pays more to get less.…
What is universal theme? Universal theme is a message about life that can be portrayed by a majority of cultures across the world. Some exemplars can be revenge, sorrow, and brotherhood. The short story “Civil Peace,” the poem “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night,” and a rap made famous by the rapper Tupac Shakur entitled “Me Against the World” all share a prevalent universal theme. The theme to these influencing pieces of writing is “Never Give Up.”…
