Transcendentalism, which is a kind of belief which consists simplicity is the path to spiritual greatness, has ability to get this goal.
In order to become happy, we have serval steps that needed to be followed. First of all, knowing thyself is the most important step that needed to be done. Living in modern life, we have learn how to conformist approach to the society to seek comfortable and stable, lately we ignored the essentially need of ourselves, finally weariness and upset are the feelings we can only get. “Whoso would be a man, must be a nonconformist.”
(Emerson)
Therefore, to become happy again, we must follow the essential of ourselves, follow our heart and become nonconformity. Second of all, we have to give up all unnecessary materials in life. Let us think a question, how many suits that you need to pick up all your stuffs, and do all of these make you happy every time? Without doubt, the answer will be negative. “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life,” (Thoreau) This is basic requirement in transcendentalism, against materialism and seek for simple life. Cleaning up unnecessary stuffs, is a step to cut down all connections with obstructor in the road of chasing happy. Final step is to give up all desires in life, simplicity of heart is the main key to start a happy life. Henry David Thoreau agrees that great desire only drops us to the deeper and crueler Hell. Besides Thoreau, Shakespeare also approved this idea in plenty of his books, for example Macbeth, who seek for power but finally dead because of guilty. As a result, we have to refuse seduce of desire, use pure faith to chase happy. Now, we know the necessary requirement to become happy, the first to do know ourselves deeply; then throw unnecessary stuffs away our lives, for example extra clothes and extra toys; finally, in spiritual area, we should give up all desires, do not pay much attention only on the benefits that we can earn. As a result, you can get a happy life, just like Henry David Thoreau, that famous transcendentalist.
