Marriage and Small Town Girl

I work in a nursing home, so I here all kinds of stories. There is one story that I will never forget. One day I was taking care of a resident when she started talking about her past. Some was sad but for the most part, it was very happy. As a girl, she had to share a one room shack with her five brothers and sisters and parents. The walls were made of scrap wood that her dad salvaged from a wood pile. She said that the only thing keeping them together and strong was the love for each other and their love for the Lord. When she was a young teenager, she met the man of her dreams. Shortly after meeting, they were married and had a family of their own. Her husband encouraged her to further her education. She became a teacher. She knew that her love for children and her love for teaching, she could make a difference in someone’s life. After she taught school for several years, she went further with her education. She became a college professor. She showed the world that a small town girl, that came from nothing could be whatever they put their mind to being.
It took a lot of hard work, dedication, a loving family, and a devoted husband to show her that she could make it. When she retired, she was the President of a college; she had three children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. They, to this day, come see her without fail. She is loved….
