The first step to marriage is the engagement. This step is considered the separation process. Separating themselves from life as they knew it before. The engagement is an agreement to be married whether it be for a short or long period of time. During this engagement there is a verbal promise to be married. There may also be the use of a ring as a solid, binding promise. At this time the couple will announce this event to their families and friends. During this period, the couple may attend a series of counseling sessions to improve their trust and build a relationship. At times there are several parties incorporated into this to celebrate this wonderful occasion. The second step of marriage brings the ceremony. This step is considered the transition period. The ceremony is usually what every young woman dreams of. The ceremony is elegant, with all of the trimmings. The bride will most often wear a beautiful white dress, and the groom will be all decked out in a tuxedo. This ceremony is held in front of God, family, and friends, and is performed by a preacher or priest. In a traditional wedding, the father will give the bride to the groom, symbolizing his blessing. There will be vows exchanged between the bride and groom. Then again comes another ring, with more symbolization. And then at last the ever so eager kiss to seal the transition.
