1. Is there a possibility that life is inhabiting below the surface of Mars?
2. Does Mars “have fossils, which would lead to the assumption of past life or is this process only on Earth?”This mission focuses on the mission subject, …show more content…
In this mission, there are three basic criteria for picking a landing site – “a spot that’s sustainable in terms of water and is geologically sound for the arrival of the rovers” (Bruce, 2014). The location will be the Arabia Terra (figure 1. Bruce, 2014), a northern Martian highland (Bruce, 2014). This site shows “evidence of water within the shallow crust and can tell us a lot about the early history of the solar system” (Arame, 2014). Evidence of the presence of water preludes to the hypothesis of there being either previous or present life forms on Mars. Moreover, there are water molecules bounded within the subsurface mineral structure, which would conclude that there is a higher potential for life forms underground in that particular landing site. This region also “contains one of the largest exposures of phyllosilicates detected on Mars, which provide a unique opportunity to evaluate aqueous activity on early Mars and point to the possibility that habitable environments may have existed during the Noachian period” (Arame, 2014). All of these factors would prove beneficial for collecting data to answer the
