Marta’s Principle in Life The story is called “ The Scholarship Jacket” by Marta Salinas. This story is about a girl named Marta that who experienced a painful discrimination during on her childhood years into especially at her eighth grade graduation in Southern Texas. When She gave all her hard work through worked really hard by maintaining good grades, and to she become became a valedictorian in to of her school. The school authorities decided not to lend give her the award, which is the “jacket” because she could not afford it. Although, when If people will sticks to their convictions beliefs, they can achieve their goals. Eventually, Marta won the scholarship jacket because she fought against discrimination to obtain it, and she did not gave give up, and she knew that she deserves deserved it, and she made some changes at in the end. First of all, People have to deal with discrimination in different walks of life. In to this story, their there are were two teachers who are were arguing about Marta and quoted “I refuse to do it! I do not care who her father is, her grades do not even begin to compare to Martha’s. I won’t lie or falsify records. Marta has a straight-A-plus average and you know it.” said by Mr. Schmidt and ‘Look, Joann’s father is not only on the Board, he owns the only store in town; we could say it was a close tie and--” said by Mr. Boone. This shows discrimination because Mr. Bonne’s opinion is was not fair; He is was comparing the family backgrounds to those of the two students, and not about the instead of their grades. Unlike to Mr. Schmidt, his opinion is equal was fair because he is was comparing actually looking at their grades between Marta and Joann and not about with at their statuses. Also, the principal called Marta in the next day and said “So if you are unable to pay the fifteen dollars for the jacket, it will be given to the next one in line.” This shows a painful discrimination to Marta because she was expecting to get
