Martian Luther king Jr was a outstanding man in a religious world and for the colored communities. In his speech “I Have A Dream” in August 28th 1963 he discusses the issues that are affecting millions of Americans’ daily. The subject that even though slavery ended a hundred years prior that colored people are still mistreated. He feels that if Americans can see this issue in a different point of view that everything can get better. Martian Luther King Jr uses repetitive words and phrases to embed them in your head. He uses rhetorical devices to make the reader or listener think about what he is talking about. By using these methods he forces the reader to consider his ideas and think logically about this issue instead of ignoring it.
MLK waste no time into getting where the primary concern is “But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.” He repeats the word “One hundred years later emphasizing the important date of how long ago slavery was abolished. He does this for a reason, the government said that “black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable right of life” Yet nothing for the blacks have really changed. After a hundred years of no more slavery MLK still feels that they are really not free.
MLK says “America has given Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds.” He is saying that the promise of riches, freedom, and the security of justice isn’t for everyone like its supposed to be. His emotions in this
