For there to be a leader there have to be followers. Dr. King as a leader did not fail at having followers. He was in a group made of leaders and ministers. Dr. King encouraged the group to use non-violent forms of protest. Dr. King also led the marches with great number of supporters of different races. For example, the March in Selma contained 2,000 black and white marchers. Another example is the political rally in Washington know as the “March on Washington” that contained more than 200,000 Americans. You can count Dr. King as one of them because even though his opinions were controversial he he held on to them and didn't let anyone change his mind even when his life was constantly being put in danger. Dr. King experienced his first assassination attempt in 1958 when a knife was thrown at his chest. After that, Dr. King not only received threats but also more life or death situations, such as when his house in Alabama was bombed. He had received a call three days before threatening him of the bombing and telling him to stop what he was doing but like the great leader he was he persevered through it and kept going. While he did survive many life or death situation he wasn't invincible. On April 23, 1998 he was shot while he was out on his balcony.
