Mary's Boy Child
Mary’s boy child
Long time ago in Bethlehem
So the holy Bible say
Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day
Hark now hear the angels sing
A new king born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day
Trumpets sound and the angels sing
Listen to what they say
That man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas day
While Shepherds watched their flocks by night
They see a bright new shining star
They hear a choir singing the music seemed to come from afar
Now Joseph and his wife Mary
Came to Bethlehem that night
They found no place to bear the child
Not a single room was in sight
Hark now hear the angels sing
A new king born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day
Trumpets sound and the angels sing
Listen to what they say
That man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas day
By and by they found a little nook
In a stable so forlorn
And in a manger cold and dark
Mary’s little child was born
A long time ago in Bethlehem
So the holy Bible say
That Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day
Hark now hear the angels sing
A new king born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day
Trumpets sound and the angels sing
Listen to what they say
That man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas day.
Oh Holy Night
Oh, holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error, pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt it's worth

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'
Fall on your knees, oh, hear the Angels' voices
Oh, night divine, oh, night when Christ was born

Oh, night divine, oh, night, oh night divine

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'
Fall on your knees, oh, hear, hear the Angels' voices
Oh, night divine, yeah, oh, night when Christ

Throughout Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Viramontes, the struggles of Estrella and her family have a sobering effect, demonstrating the hardships that migrant workers endure. Near the end of the novel, when Alejo was takin to the clinic and tended to by a nurse, Estrella has an epiphany, a defining moment. “Estrella had figured it out: the nurse owed them as much as they owed her." This revelation is in my opinion one of the most important aspects of the book.…

Luke’s theme is about new conversion and the rapid spread of Christianity, however, with the addition of the story of Mary and Martha it becomes confusing as to how this story fits in with the overall theme of the Gospel of Luke. However, Luke continues his theme with this story because he wants everyone to know the truth about Jesus. Jesus wanted Martha to stop doing the busywork and focus on the truth of Him and who He is. Before this passage, we have the story about the Good Samaritan who was there to help even when it was frowned upon socially. After this passage, we have where Jesus teaches about prayer. The passage about Mary and Martha go with the Good Samaritan story because Martha was doing what was expected by her culture and society, while Mary was going beyond it and sitting at the feet of Jesus.…

    Mary Pleasant, a Biography

Mary Pleasant, also widely referred to as “Mammy Pleasant”, is the considered Mother of Civil Rights in California due to her work with the Civil Rights movement during the 1860s. She was an icon during the Gold Rush and Gilded Age San Francisco because of her political power, mainly due to her large fortune and as well as her influence, in the cause and in her fellow citizens. Her achievements as an abolitionist went unmatched until the late 1960s, during which other laws regarding slavery were passed; although her achievements were surpassed, it was her work that helped set off the chain reaction of events that led to the greater triumphs of the Civil Rights movement. Following the Civil War, Pleasant brought her battles to the courts in the 1860s, and claimed a handful of human rights victories. One of those victories, Pleasant vs. North Beach & Mission Railroad Company, was heavily cited and advocated in the 1980s, which is the main reason behind why Pleasant is known today as “The Mother of Human Rights in California”. Pleasant was a woman of half African descent. She helped shape early San Francisco and furthered the Civil Rights movements. Her ability to “love across boundaries of race and class without losing sight of her goal –the equality for herself and her people” is what makes Pleasant the person that she was, and is what makes of her what people see her for today, as The Mother of Human Rights in California. (Pleasant’s Story)…

In the memoir the Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls her mother Rose Mary is characterized throughout the novel as an immature, neglectful, and very odd individual. While the family is in a real crunch for money Jeannette and Lauren eat a stick of butter because they're so hungry. When Rose Mary finds out she is furious and lists off reasons they needed to save the butter. When Jeannette tells her there's no bread to spread it on and no gas in the stove to make bread, Rose Mary’s defense is “We should have saved the margarine just in case the gas gets turned back on. Miracles do happen, you know”(Walls 69) This fight Rose Mary and Jeannette get into is senseless. Jeannette is about 6 and starving but her mother gets mad when she eats the butter, this leads the reader and Jeannette to think Rose Mary only wanted the butter for herself. Rose Mary wanting the butter for herself and not her children shows how selfish she is and how her children are not her top priority. Another instance where Rose Mary shows how she is selfish and indicates her children continuing to not be a top priority of hers is when she wants a piano. “Mom decided that we really needed a piano.” (Walls 52) Although her family is starving and her children have no the toys and raggedy old clothes, Rose Mary decides the family needs a piano, a selfish decision for her own benefits. When Rose Mary starts to teach Lori’s class at Battle Mountain, all the kids are acting up but rather than punish any of them she punishes Loir, “She had to punish someone, and she didn’t want to upset the other kids’ Lori said” (Walls 75) Although Lori says she wasn’t acting up her mother punishes her, which highlights her dishe other regard for her own children and cares more about what the other children think of her. Rose Mary cares what this class of elementary school kids think of her but she’s always telling her children not to care what others think of you. It’s also odd that she cares about these children’s opinion’s…

In "The Little Convent Girl", the girl was forced to become an adult at a young age, not knowing who she was, and not being able to decide on her own. The girl was forced to join the convent at a young age when knowing yourself is impossible. She was unable to grow and learn from mistakes. In the text, the little convent girl did not show much emotion and give many opinions. The only idea to grasp about her is from the interactions with the people on the ship. The narrator gives a description of the little convent girl but from just that, there is no conclusion how she felt with her life. We can only draw conclusions that she was not comfortable with herself because of her shy, scared ways. We also know that her father passed away and hasn't seen her mother in many years. Being away from any parent can be very troublesome for a child. They have no one to learn from or lean on when upset. The little convent girl was too young to realize the importunateness of becoming your own woman.…

The Church has held Mary’s perpetual virginity as a dogma, and it is also true that it has brought about distrust and doubt. This skepticism towards Mary’s virginity has grown through out the history of man kind. At the very heart of this dogma lies the credence of the Church and of the Magisterium, who have the proficiency to maintain Mary’s perpetual virginity as an absolute truth. This upholding has perpetually led to the debate of whether Mary, Mother of Jesus, was in fact a virgin through out her entire life. Many see this affirmation as impossible, nonetheless the Church has always believed Mary remain a virgin “during childbirth and after childbirth.” Conversely many people do agree with this statement for the mere belief that the Bible…

Towards the end of Problema I, Kierkegaard discusses the Virgin Mary to compare the greatness of Abraham to that of Mary, and to further emphasize the distinction between tragic hero and knight of faith. He writes, “for she was no heroine and he no hero, but both of them became greater than that, not by any means by being relieved of the distress, the agony, and the paradox, but because of these (Kierkegaard 94).” Mary, like Abraham, is tested by God through her virgin birth. The indignity put upon Mary resembles Abraham’s ethical dilemma, and yet through the paradox of faith and infinite resignation, she becomes the mother of God, as Isaac is returned to Abraham. The same “strength of the absurd,” a virgin birth in Mary’s case, grants Abraham the strength…

    The Carpenter's Son

"We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." (Hebrews 10:10) Devout Christians should be familiar with those words as they revolve around the noble death of God's one and only son, who is one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith. This man and his sacrifice are frequently referred to by poets and there are several poems whose entire message is all about Jesus Christ. One such poem is a satire written by poet A. E. Housman, titled “The Carpenter's Son”. Housman’s work is not your conventional religious poem as it offers a very negative view on mankind and Jesus himself, which is considered extremely offensive and crude by a large majority of readers. Yet, like many other poets, Housman's faith greatly influenced the poetry he wrote, which was also a reflection of not only his religion, but his life. When a person goes through a pivotal event in their life, that event often changes their religious views, which can be observed in their creative writing. The message of Housman's poem “The Carpenter's Son” is a reflection of signifcant incidents from his past, that altered his faith and religious beliefs such as his mother's passing and his unrequited love for another man.…
