Movie Review: The Patriot
On September 2, 2016 I watched “The Patriot” on my computer via DVD I borrowed from my grandmother. I sat down at twelve o’clock and finished at two o’clock. This is my opinion and account of this movie featuring the American Revolution.
The movie begins with a post man delivering the mail to a plantation where Benjamin Martin lives with his family Benjamin was a veteran of the French and Indian war where he regarded as a hero. He at the time was working on making chairs in which he has failed at time after time. His sons return from hunting to see the postman leave and his father come out of his workshop. Benjamin said it was madness to go to war with Great Britain. He was a patriot but he thought that the problem could be solved in a more peaceful way. After much debate it was decided that South Carolina would help support the creation of an army. His oldest son Gabriel wanted to sign up to join the army much to his father’s protest. Gabriel told his father that he intended to sign up no matter what he said. Then an account of Gabriel’s time in the army is shown as he fights in the north and said he would be heading to South Carolina to stop General Cornwallis. That morning Gabriel comes home wounded and is almost shot by his father. Meanwhile, the Patriot retreat in the area results in wounded on both sides. Benjamin helped wounded on both sides and had them stay at his home. The British military arrived and thanked him for helping soldiers of the crown. One of the soldiers found dispatches that were meant for Patriot hands and asked who was carrying them. Gabriel admitted to carrying them and they took him prisoner. The American Revolution has always been an area of interest and expertise when it comes to history for me. I had had knew that our army never played by the rules of war. All we did was write the new rules of war. The sacrifices made by the soldiers of the American Revolution were extraordinary and costly but they were all worth it. In all I really appreciate that this movie showed how war began to evolve as we began to target those in command of the battle not the one fighting in it. This fight ended with the birth of the greatest nation in the world the United States of
