For the past seventy-eight years, Disney has been creating disney princess movies, a phenomenon that has swept the world, with worldwide gross of up to six hundred million dollars. We reside in a city notoriously known for its insane nightlife, so growing up here in Las Vegas has not always been the most enjoyable experience due to the numerous age restrictions downtown with little to no options for genuine fun other than your basic mall or movie trip, thus leaving every kid yearning to be 21 in order to have a bit of freedom. But what if I told you about The Rocky Horror Picture Show? A kooky tradition that has been around in here in Las Vegas for 14 years and known to the world for the past 42, that has brought unity and self expression to its audiences you too can be a part of.…

As the families boarded a plane and took off for the warm and welcoming air of Florida, the two girls were day-dreaming of parties with the princesses and meeting all of the beloved characters that can be found throughout the magical world of Disney. Looking out the window of the airplane the girls was surrounded by bright blue skies as her anticipation and excitement level grew higher than the fluffy clouds that floated overhead.…

The use of lifeguards on beaches in California began in the late 1930’s. The beach was inexpensive recreation in the post-Depression era. Communities grew around seasonal beach attendance. Transportation improvements made the beach accessible to the inland communities. The influx of swimmers into the surf-zone in Southern California leads to drowning on a sometimes massive scale:…
Jane Yolen uses many forms and techniques to convey distinctive ideas about the Holocaust, humanity and the power of storytelling. This novel is one that needs to be clearly understood to grasp the true meaning of the story. Yolen uses what could be called a radical structure to get the reader involved with the quest to find out the real history of Briar Rose.…
I recently hit 100 views today (yey for me). So I decided to look at my tags to see what my most popular was and it was horror. The ranking for the Wrong Turn films did pretty well (you can find it here if you have not seen it) and I enjoyed writing it. So I decided to do something similar plus I do like to read up on horror things so why not do a top 10 killers. For horrors I love the sub genre of slasher films so most of my chooses will probably be from them types of movies.…
By providing anecdotes in her article, Hanes appeals to mothers on a personal and emotional level. She first grabs her readers’ attention by opening with a testimony from a mother, Mary Finucane, who was battling the same problem with her daughter. It seemed that after being exposed to the Disney Princess, her daughter exemplified new, less imaginative behavior. While her peers viewed the behavior as normal, Finucane became alarmed. Another supporting illustration of Hanes connecting to her audience is when she included the memorable moments a daughter, Maya Brown, shared with her mother, Professor Brown. Maya vividly remembers her mother distinguishing between good or poor representations of women on television when she was growing up. Her mother also would empower the female characters in storybooks to ensure that her daughter would not fall victim to feeling second-rate to males. By adding these realistic situations to the article, it makes it easier for Hanes’s audience to relate. It also provided a sense of hope seeing that both situations resulted in a success…
When thinking about why I want to be the next County Fair Queen, many memories of the fair came back to me. I have wonderful memories of meeting up with friends at the fair, attending the carnival, going to the dance and making new friends. The fair is a great time for all, bringing the community together to enjoy all the different components that are offered.…
Achieving the American Dream is something that most Americans strive for during their lifetimes. It is the idea that if we work hard and are determined that we can achieve whatever we set our minds to. Whether it is wealth, fame, family, or a successful career, we all strive to achieve it. It can be different for each one of us, but it is something that we all want to achieve. Although it is a shared goal by many people, but our past shows that it is not an easy thing to accomplish. The novel "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, the poem "Hope" by Karen Hesse and Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech" all use the aspect of hope as a vital part of achieving the American Dream through their development of perspective and tone.…
Eleanor Byrne and Martin McQuillan offer a critical encounter with Disney which alternates between readings of individual texts and wider thematic concerns such as race, gender and sexuality, the broader context of American contemporary culture, and the global ambitions and insularity of the last great superpower.…
Barbra Millicent Roberts, better known as Barbie, was first introduced in 1959. This new doll sold for $3.00, and became the new toy that every little girl (or boy) wanted. Two years after Barbie was introduced, Ken Carson was introduced to the doll family in 1961. Barbie & Ken may be a fun toy to have, but are highly judged for not being reality. Today I will talk about Barbie & Ken’s history and their history as a couple.…
I absolutely had to use a photo of Princess Diana because I was a huge fan of hers. I remember watching her wedding on television when I was a young child, and I cried like a baby when she met her untimely demise. I don't recall every crying like that when a celebrity died, but she was my heroine and I loved her! Since then I've kept up with the ins and outs of the Royal Family and the shenanigans of Prince Harry, my now favorite Prince. He is a Princess Diana reincarnated in the male form. Lives by his own rules and with not a care in the world. Madison and I were able to visit the Madame Tussauds London museum while on our trip to London just recently, thanks to the kind folks of Merlin Entertainment. Since this is most likely the only way we'll ever get to the meet the Royal Family we just had to do it. Now if you're thinking all wax museums are the same, well Madame Tussauds London is on a whole new level of awesome. I've…
