The painting consists of a very blue color scheme throughout. This is, in most cases, associated with coldness and sometimes death. The dark blue background also, as mentioned above, provided almost an extreme contrast. In addition to the background, her hair also dark. Had he chosen blonde hair, the contrast would dulled. Most importantly, the girl’s eyeliner very much brings out her eyes. It is strategically placed on her waterlines rather than lids to accentuate her eyeballs and provide incredibly sharp corners to her eyes. The coldness and “deathly” tone of the painting manifests an eerie and dangerous theme. The contrast and accentuation of the girl and her eyes inclines the audience to be intrigued by the girls fearlessness in a cold and deathly…
What struck me when I first saw this painting, other than the pretty flower garland, is how brightly illuminated she was. Her porcelain skin is highlighted as if the sun or some form of light shines down on her. This is in contrast to everything else being much darker. The contrast between her bright aura and the dark surroundings could the author’s way of symbolizing Madame de Thorigny’s status and wealth. It could also be a way of emphasizing her being the focal point of the painting. I noticed her gaze…
This painting shows the energy and positive attitudes of the people through the use of vibrant colors and the happy expressions of the faces. The people in this picture have features that were comparable to the minstrel characters (Wikipedia, 26 July 2013) often depicting Black face. Many have very dark skin with big white eyes and teeth, and are all smiles. All of the people are dressed nicely in dresses for the women and girls, top hats and slacks for the men and boys. It is safe to assume that the people in the picture had just came from church, because in the background you clearly see the church and a handful of people walking out as well as a carload of people driving off.…
It was a battle between the Colonist and the British Empire but the question is who is correct and who is in the wrong and what caused the great revolution . Most people thought that the British king was there to serve the people not the people were there to serve the king (doc 1). The king in Britain disagreed and made them serve him and the colonists were not happy with that.…
After examining both pieces, it is obvious to see the function of each painting. Both have hidden meanings behind the abstract shapes or images. Because the message is not clear and the patterns vary, it is likely that these tell stories. For example, many cultures would record their history using drawn pictures. In this case, these stories are told and remembered for cultural or religious purposes.…
The meaning of the painting, as perceived, is the hindrance black people faced in entering the land of prosperity; the obstacle they faced was nothing other than White dominance. There is a White giant like figure in the middle of the painting with a sharp teethed wolf or monster underneath, creating a sense of evilness and scariness. They block the blacks from entering their dreams, in other words, a successful life. As a result, black people are sad and…
Learning history is one of the most important things that everyone should do. We are always worry about our future, but to make a better future, people should learn about their past to avoid doing the same mistakes that older generations did. It is important to observe the daily life of American people and society in the past and how did it affect our present and will affect our future lives. During the History 171 course, we have studies different eras, starting from the development of the West in 1865 until the tumultuous sixties. The actual focal point when you look at painting, your eyes immediately goes to the line of people standing outside the building. You look to the left and see a man bending down receiving the newspaper or to the right to the man standing beside him with his hands in his pockets with a despair/sorrow look. This man possibly feels this way because there is no one to accompany him for the night or he’s out of money. There is also man with a blue suit and white gloves that’s holding his hands up telling the hold before crossing the street like traffic director.…
Some objects in the painting are a pregnant woman, a burning candle, a skull, and a cross lying on the table under some books. The way the woman’s head is rested on her hand and she is staring into the candle light, shows that she is in deep thought. I believe that the woman is reflecting upon her life. She looks to be pregnant, which represents life. The unity of…
I think this medieval art in a way relates to the story “A good man is hard to find” because in the book the family is going on vacation to Florida but the grandma doesn’t want to go there and tries to convince her son not to go there, during the trip it talks about how now a days we can’t trust no one “These days you don’t know who to trust…” and the grandma talks about how she can “remember the day you could go off and leave your screen door unlatched. Not no more.” The waitress also says “it isn’t a soul in this green world of God’s that you can trust…” and in the painting the general trusted this women who he just met and invited her to his party and it just got him killed. Towards the end of the book they have a car accident but they are fine and the car is messed up. They see a car driving slowly on the road and the grandma “waved both arms dramatically to attract their attention” so they can help them. But it turns out to be the Misfit, who escaped from the federal pen, and he ended up killing all of them. So in both stories they…
It gives one an idea that this guardian angel is there to protect the boy and gives him his first view of the beautiful world. I think Mr. Cole was trying to start this painting off by symbolizing the child coming out of a dark cave and into a beautiful bright world, much like when a child is born. The details of the painting are very precise and beautiful. Mr. Cole did a great job using balance, shape and light in this piece. If you look at the painting like your reading a book, the color goes from dark to bright and the way he uses his colors to portray this transition is beautiful.…
The painting is of a slave ship that got caught up in a bad storm. A mass of dark clouds fill the sky with a fiery sunset in the middle. The water is troublesome announcing a Typhon is coming. For the slavers to save themselves and the ship; they start throwing overboard the dead and dying before the Typhon sweeps their decks. In those days the ship carrying the slaves kept them on the bottom of the ship chained up, and malnourished. By throwing the slaves overboard, is no lost to the slavers, because they could claim insurance money for lost item at sea. The sea is angry - filled with dead bodies of the salves still in chains. The sharks are happy food has arrived.…
You have a dog that is growling, this indicates that it is afraid and is showing aggression, something that is not all supposed to be happy, but it is made to look like it is smiling by turning the painting upside down. The dog is supposed to represent humans, and it shows how we are sometimes in a situation of discomfort, anger, or pain and yet we are made to smile and act like everything is fine against our will. This is due to pressure about keeping up appearances, or just not being able to share your feelings with others because of receiving backlash from them, we see how people care so much about not appearing weak, or being an emotional inconvenience on others that we just pretend that everything is fine when it’s…
Since it’s founding in 1852 Anheuser-Busch has brewed a great product. Today Anheuser-Busch is controlling the industry by creating brand supremacy over their competitors. Anheuser-Busch has a very successful and long standing history with their marketing and advertising, this has aided in giving them the edge they needed over the competition. In the US market their signature beers Budweiser and Bud Light can be referenced by the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales. These horses have given this company the American feel as well as the competitive edge over other brewers. Anheuser-Busch has also put a great deal of time and money into sponsorships within the sports industry, this has also helped secure the global loyalty it has enjoyed in the past.…
I believe this painting shows a loss of identity. This is the reason I chose this as my favorite piece of art, because I can relate to it. There came a time in my life where I was struggling with my own identity. In today's world it is very significant to identify oneself with at least one thing (ones ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, or a particular belief). Many people still grapple with the notion of identity in many countries, regions, and various ways in order to fit or adapt into any environment (social, economic, cultural, political, etc). One’s identity determines ones position or situation in society wherever one lives. However, finding the right type of…
