We have learned about people like George Washington and Andrew Jackson who were both brave men who fought in wars and gained their respect through their bravery. However in today’s society it seems to be all about public approval. For example Michael Bloomberg Mayor, New York City, talked about climate change and how it was a problem that needed to be fixed then “In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, he gave his endorsement to Obama, saying the President would be best on handling the issue” (businessinsider.com).
Another Aspect that shapes public opinion is the media, American politics have been quite a big deal lately because of the influence of mass media and the way that American politics are run. The idea of mass media was supposed to make it easier for people to participate in political decisions, understand how the government works, and hold government officials accountable. However that is not the cases because politicians use all kinds of diversion. The attention of a group of people can be diverted by meaningless facts and words. With their minds somewhere else, it is harder for the public to recognize the real issues and separate the truth from fiction. Transparency can be a tricky tactic, but it is highly effective for the politician and can be beneficial to the election
