Master Of Social Work Personal Statement
Early in life, I was exposed to many adverse factors that influence behavioral changes within people, including divorced parents, underprivileged environments due to a lower socio-economic status, and observations of diverse behaviors. Throughout my childhood and young adult life, I was a witness to the stigma associated with mental illness and poverty-stricken areas, resulting in a drive within myself to become an individual committed to advocating and reducing the stigma attached to such populations. In my high school career, I became aware of the significant and important roles public policies and government agencies possessed with regard to assisting and reducing poverty-stricken areas. Although young I possessed an ambition, which created the foundation for my goal to become a social worker/professional with the commitment to serve and advocate for subjugated and vulnerable demographic populations. The Master of Social Work program will advance me intellectually providing me the education and opportunities necessary to work with people, families, diverse populations, organizations, and communities. I will continue to develop values, skills, and knowledge aligned to the advancement of social work, allowing me to adequately and efficiently advocate and offer services to diverse populations within the community. I have always had a personal commitment to continue my professional growth and compel myself to a lifelong responsibility of leadership and continued education so that I may assist agencies and others effectively in hopes to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and oppressed
