In the next chapter, Malik Bruder is someone that really wants to get out of town and move to NYC. In the chapter he blabbers on about NYC and about how boring Serenity is. Instead of calling it Serenity, he calls it “Happy Valley”. Based on this information, I infer that he hates Serenity and that he is being sarcastic as “Happy Valley” and the hatred for Serenity don’t go along very well. One day, Hector Amani, a boy that really thinks he is best friends with Malik, got a new skateboard. But, Malik thinks he’s kind of a wimp even though he is like any other boy. He wanted to show the skateboard and to display its “awesomeness” to Malik/his best friend.
