Materials Science and Tensile Testing Machine
I. SKETCH

KEY: 1. MECHANICAL SHAKER 2. L.A. ABRASION TESTING MACHINE 3. COMPRESSION TESTING MACHINE 4. UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE 5. TENSILE TESTING MACHINE

A. MECHANICAL SHAKER

This machine is usually used during a gradation test
The said shaker has the capacity of approximately 10 to 20 kilograms.
Mechanical Shakers can be used for design qualifications, end product reliability and fatigue testing, environmental stress screening (ESS), as part of a production process such as quality assurance, or anything else that requires vibration.

B. L.A. ABRASION TESTING MACHINE
The machine is used for testing crushed slag, crushed and uncrushed gravel for resistance to abrasion. the aim of the test is to find the percentage wear due to the relative rubbing action between the aggregates and steel balls as abrasive charge.
The L.A. ABRASION TESTING MACHINE available at the lab has the capacity of 34 revolutions per minute.

C. UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE
A universal testing machine is used to test the tensile stress and compressive strength of materials.
It is named after the fact that it can perform many standard tensile and compression tests on materials, components, and structures.
The range of the UTM available at the laboratory is 8 to 36 mm and has the capacity of 5 to 100 kN.

D. TENSILE TESTING MACHINE
The tensile testing machine is a specialized machine designed for tensile testing This measures how strong it is (tensile strength) how stretchy it is (elongation), and how stiff it is (tensile modulus).
The range of the TTM available at the laboratory is 10-12 mm and has the capacity of about 50 kN.

E. COMPRESSION TESTING MACHINE
The machine is designed for compressive strength testing and for bending, transverse and shear loads.
Hardness test on metals can also be conducted.

Since the beginning of time, gender roles have existed in society. And the pressure of that role made women Struggles against society's ideas of how gender roles should be, as well as threats of a feminist influence on some issues found in "Boys and Girls", written by Alice Munro, and “playing to win” ,by Margaret Whitney, these stories emphasizes the external societal and parental forces that shape the protagonist. These aspects also change who they become. The external pressure by society and by family influence the protagonist in both story.…

The experiment hardware is a T-beam that fits onto a Structures Test Frame (STR1, available separately). Students adjust a load cell that bends the beam and, when connected to the optional Digital Force Display (STR1a, available separately), it measures the bending force (load). Strain gauges and a digital strain bridge measure the strains in the beam. Dummy strain gauges compensate for temperature variation and balance the strain bridges. The equipment includes a lead for connection to the Digital Force Display (STR1a, available separately). The lecturer guide provides details of the equipment including sample experiment results. The student guide describes how to use the equipment and gives experiment procedures. For extra…

This is the capacity of a beam or slab to withstand failure in bending. It is measured by loading unreinforced 100 x 100 mm concrete beams with a 500mm span. The flexural strength is expressed as “Modulus of Rupture” (MR) in MPa and is about 12 to 20% of compressive strength. Beam specimens properly made in the field, consolidate by vibration in accordance with CSA A23.23C and tap sides to release bubbles. After 24 hours immersed in water for curing and cured in a standard manner, and tested while wet because flexural tests are extremely sensitive to specimen preparation, handling, and curing procedure.…

The first part of the trip was on UP Diliman Engineering Laboratory, the first equipment introduce to us was the hydraulic bench, it is used to investigate channel flow, hydraulic jump, determining the coefficient of discharge flow of the system. The second equipment was air pipe assembly and oil pipe assembly, for the air pipe it is used to determine friction losses in pipe and discharge, oil pipe it is used to determine if the flow is laminar or turbulent, velocity distribution in pipes. The other equipment were the closed circuit wind tunnel, it determines the pressure distribution and velocity distribution around various bodies, Portable Wind tunnel, it determines the lift and drag around various bodies. The other equipments are the different types of Universal Testing Machines, which determines the strength of the material being tested. For the testing of steel reinforcement they are determining the yield point and breakage point of the steel, while on the concrete cylinder testing they are only to determine the ultimate strength of concrete because concrete doesn’t have yield point. The last equipment they show us was the rainfall simulator which determines the discharge flow of water on the drainage system.…
