The coupon savings on Build America Bonds (BAB) comes from the initial function of the Bonds, on average, 84 basis points on interest costs for 30-year bonds and also received significant savings on shorter maturities, as compared to traditional tax-exempt bonds. While, in this case, the State of Maine issue BABs, and the Treasury provides a 35 percent direct subsidy to State of Maine to offset its borrowing costs.…

In this project we were given the case of customer complaints that the bottles of the brand of soda produced in our company contained less than the advertised sixteen ounces of product. Our boss wants us to solve the problem at hand and has asked me to investigate. I have asked my employees to pull Thirty (30) bottles off the line at random from all the shifts at the bottling plant. The first step in solving this problem is to calculate the mean (x bar), the median (mu), and the standard deviation (s) of the sample. All of those calculations were easily computed in excel. The mean was computed by entering: =average, the…

1. In the upcoming US presidential election this November, Florida is a key swing state that is very important in determining the outcome. Currently the Democratic candidate Barack Obama and the Republican candidate Mitt Romney are virtually tied in recent polls. For this question, you can use 9 million as our population size; this is approximately the total number votes in the 2008 presidential election in Florida. (a) The latest poll asked 890 likely voters and found that the proportion of Florida residents likely to vote for the Democratic candidate is 47%, construct a 95% confidence interval for this estimate under the SRSWOR.…
Maureen is a psychology major who is conducting a study on memory. The participants in her experiment study a long list of words and then recall the list by verbalizing the words to Maureen. Maureen knows which words are correct, and whenever a participant states an incorrect word, Maureen inadvertently shifts her eyes and makes a note on her notepad. As a result, the participants change their recall behavior and tend to recall fewer words thereafter. This scenario illustrates a(n) ________.…

Cause and effect experimental research involves a situation where a researcher manipulates a variable called an independent variable. Once that is done, he evaluates another variable called a dependant variable and checks to see if it reacts to the manipulated independent variable. If the dependant variable is reacting to the independent variable in a predicted way, than the researcher can conclude that the independent variable is the cause of the change of the dependant variable. This is the process of a cause and effect experimental research test. In a field experiment, subjects are observed in their natural outdoor environment so that researchers can study their behavior. Most of the time, the subjects are not aware of the researchers and so usually the conclusions are mostly accurate. For example, researchers may follow lions and research how they live, eat, breed and also migrate in order for them to stay close behind on their prey. As long as the researchers are not interrupting the lion’s routine, their findings should be highly accurate. The drawback to this experiment is that the researchers have little to no control of the experiment if something happens. The last experiment is a laboratory experiment. This is where a subject is put in a controlled environment so that the researcher can manipulate the setting and see if it causes any reaction in the subject. The advantage to this research is that the researcher has a high amount of control of the setting so that he or she can manipulate the environment and way they see fit in order to get a response from the subject. One example could be putting a subject in a empty room and administer different drugs to him to see what would be the results. Since the room is empty and nothing can interfere with the subject, the researchers can monitor the subject closely and record accurate readings since there are…

I just wanted to see if I can help you understand a little about the internet and answer some of the questions you have for me. In the beginning you had to have a phone line, but the big cable companies started to use the cable system to transfer the data making it faster and more reliable. Private companies would start-up web browsers and search engines, internet service providers and email; all quickly changed the landscape and the culture around us. Many people became rich and powerful, but along with them came the scammers and those that were less ethical. Because of them the reliability of what you were reading, viewing or watching became suspect. There was so much money to be made because the net had exploded into almost every household in America. You had asked how to check the reliability of what you are reading; there are many ways to do this.…
When we have reached old age and reminisce of days long ago, will we look back on ourselves and note the changes we have gone through? Is it possible that we are exactly the same person we were dozens of years ago, or have certain parts of our personalities changed while other parts have stayed the same? I can at least say that for myself, I have undergone significant changes with my personality throughout the course of my life. My personality development was not only a product of nature, or genetics, but the environment as well.…
SOLVING ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS Performance Standard (16EUS/17B).C Draw a picture of an environmental problem in the community and a picture of a possible solution(s) and write a short explanation of the importance of the solution(s) for the community: • Knowledge: identify a community environmental problem and possible solutions; • Comprehension: analyze the connection between the problem and the solutions and the importance of it to the local community; and • Communication: draw a picture that is well-organized well-focused, and well-detailed; express all ideas in a way that provides evidence of knowledge and reasoning processes. Procedures 1. In order to understand Illinois, United States, and world environmental history (16EU), and analyze and explain characteristics and interactions of the Earth’s physical systems (17B), students should experience sufficient learning opportunities to develop the following: • Analyze a graph or chart containing data that shows changes in aspects of the physical environment over time, and • Identify examples in the local community of ways in which the physical environment is harmed by human activities. 2. Have students review and discuss the following assessment task and how the rubric will be used to evaluate their work. 3. Show sample graphs, maps and charts concerning environmental changes that are harming the earth and its people today (i.e., forest destruction, ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, waste pollution, water pollution, acid rain, habitat destruction). Have students analyze the graphs, maps and charts looking at the causes of the problems and possible solutions. 4. Discuss with students the causes and solutions and list the students’ responses. 5. Discuss environmental problems in the community and make a list of students’ responses. 6. Have students divide a 11x17 drawing paper into quarters. 7. Have the students choose an environmental problem that affects the community today and one that affects the whole Earth.…
