mathematics assignment 1
Mathematics is the abstract study of topics such as quantity (numbers), Structures, Space and Change. Mathematics is a science which draws necessary conclusions. It is a broad ranging field of study in which the properties and interactions of idealized objects are examined. As we already know, Mathematics is becoming more and more useful to Geologists. Mathematical Geology can be an essential aid in formulating models and scientific theories to bring together different geological phenomena. Geomagnetic Field models are used in navigations, Geophysical Surveys, Oil production and in scientific studies ranging from the upper atmosphere to the earth’s deep interior. The math which is required with geology can be written down as Algebra, Geometry, trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations and Statistics. Modern Geological Industries use Mathematics for almost all the exploration techniques.

The application of Mathematics to problems in geology and mining as well as to hydrology date back a considerable time. For a time, geostatistics meant statistics applied to geology or perhaps more generally to problems in the earth sciences. The basic programs, or computer applications which are required by the geologists, are completely based on the rules of Mathematics. Today’s Mining Industry and mining Technology completely rely on mathematics – From signal processing algorithms for exploration data, to optimizing mine design, to developing efficient materials handling systems. Australian mathematicians have a history of actively supporting innovation in mining. In Mineral Exploration, by applying Mathematical Techniques the quality of decision making can be optimized. The probability of design in the vicinity of the undiscovered deposit can be estimated from the observations and the quality of estimation can be controlled in an accurate way. Mathematics underpins nearly all of today’s oil and gas activities —

The problem 46 on page 240 in the text book, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra asks that I evaluate an inequality equation that can satisfy the Ozark Company needs. (Dugopolski, M. 2012 )The paragraphs ask for an inequality that can allow the company to use 3000 board feet of maple lumber. Of the 3000 board feet of lumber, the company will need 15 board feet to make classic rockers, and 12 board feet to make modern rockers. Therefore the inequality equation will equal to: 12x + 15y ≤ 3000. The company wants to see if how many classic or modern rockers they can manufacture with 3000 feet of maple lumber.…

Course Description This course gives an overview of physical geology by introducing concepts such as plate tectonics and geologic time. Students gain familiarity with the processes that shape the Earth’s surface and recognize the relevance of studying geology. Topics include the rock cycle, weathering, formation of geological features, and preservation of geological resources. The weekly labs add a practical component to the class. The labs build upon the concepts in the text and offer a chance to interact with the material and further their understanding. For instance, in pumping operations, rise over run calculations are essential, along with friction loss per foot of a pressure and volume of a moving water column in a hose line. You need to be quick thinking on your feet and know what formula/calculation you will be using because most of these calculations will be used in pressure situations. In a fuel loading situation, a basic formula is used to calculate given structure depending on its use and resources needed, including water supplies. Trigonometry and geometry are used to determine a given slope and fuel load as well. Temperature, wind direction and speed calculations are essential to safe brush and forest fire extinguishing. Firefighter aircrews have to use math to determine their fuel requirements and angle of attack for air drops of water and retardant over a wild land fire.…
