Discuss in reference to the Film, The Matrix.
In the film The Matrix, The Wachowski Brothers demonstrate that inquisitiveness primarily results in positive outcomes, but that it can also result in discomfort and agony. In The Matrix, curiosity is shown through the characters’ actions, as they question their existence and the world which they thought was ‘reality.’ Firstly, since the birth of humanity, discovering our existence and purpose has been a predominant focus in the human experience. Additionally, the decisions in which humans make ultimately affect the person they become, as it shape their identity and future. Finally, it is evident that a battle against good and evil ultimately results in self-discovery. It is the curiosity which sparks the following actions, and in due course can result in positive and negative outcomes.
Since the beginning of mankind, discovering the reason behind our lives and existence has been a predominant focus of life. When we are presented with information that describes a potentially different reality or, an alteration to the norm, humans are curious to discover this new idea and purpose because they want to search for meaning in their lives. We see this when Morpheus is explaining to Neo that the world he thought was real is the complete opposite, more of a simulated reality that keeps him restrained. The bright white backdrop of the construct shows the difference between the Matrix and the dystopian reality of the real world. The fast moving pace of the scene, and how suddenly the characters transport themselves, shows that it cannot be real. The two red leather chairs, the same of that in the Matrix used for the pill scene, along with the old fashioned television encourages Neo and the viewers to accept the truth from Morpheus. Even though the discovery of this dystopian world is not positive, the fact that Neo is able to understand the world
