• Matter&Material
• Matter-everything around you, it is anything made of atoms and molecules. It’s anything that has a mass. Matter is related to light and electromagnetic radiation. Usually found in a few forms and it has 5 states- (Solids,Liquids,Gases,Plasmas,Bose Einstein Condensates)
• Mass- It is the amount of material in an object. It is the same on Earth or Mars. It is the amount of matter which an object contains.
• Weight- It is how heavy something is. It is a physical property. It measures the pull that gravity has on an object. Weight will change if an object is on another planet.
• Solution- Solutions are groups of molecules that are in a completely even distribution. Solution is made up of two substances combined – a solute(solid) and solvent ( liquid). Solutions are homogenous.
• Atoms-Everything in the world is made up of very small particles called atoms. There came a point where matter couldn’t be made smaller. These particles are called atoms.
• Molecules- Molecules are bigger than atoms. Atoms join together to make molecules.
• Elements- Elements are substances that are made up of only 1 type of atom. There are 113 known elements – most are metals. The symbols shown on the periodic table represent the known elements. Even atoms are made up of smaller particles but, they aren’t broken down by ordinary chemical means.
• Substance- A material with a constant composition. Substance is the same no matter where it is found. All elements and all compounds are defined as substances.
• Compounds- Substances that are made up of more than one type of atom. Compounds differ from mixtures in that they are chemically combined. Unlike elements, compounds can be decomposed or broken down by simple chemical reactions.
• Phase- A phase is any region of a material that has its own set of properties.
• Homogenous Materials- Any material that contains only 1 phase would be homogenous. Each region of a sample is identical to all
