10: 5-42), in this discourse Matthew recounts the detailed instructions Jesus gave to his twelve disciples. The twelve were common men, among them were fishers and Matthew himself was a tax collector; these men were commissioned to go and proclaim the kingdom of heaven. The third discourse is the “Parable of the Kingdom” – the parable discourse (Mt. 13: 3-52); Jesus teaches us through parables and when he does this, He is exposing and describing the nature of the Kingdom. Jesus says that he talks in parables because, “they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.” (Mt 13: 13) In each of the parables, Jesus compares specific things to the kingdom of heaven; for example, the Mustard Seed being so small but it grows to be the largest of the plants.
