Matt closes his book and sets it down on his table after finishing the last page. He wonders why Mrs. Brothers chose this book. What was the point of reading it? What was the theme? The book “Nightjohn” is set back in the late 1700s and is focused on slavery and their life and struggles. It is narrated by a slave girl named Sarny who finds a new slave friend who teaches her how to read. The themes of this story are leadership, bravery, and getting along with others.
There are multiple intakes on the theme of “Nightjohn”. One theme to this story is about leadership. An example of this in the book is that Nightjohn was considered to be a leader because he was brave, courageous, and encouraged others to try something new. Nightjohn. That’s why leadership is a theme to the story “Nightjohn”.
Another theme to this story is about bravery because Nightjohn was trying to do what he thought was right even when he knew that there could be consequences. They’re different ways a slave could be gallant though. For example, Sarny. Sarny showed bravery by just hearing out and learning from Nightjohn. Sarny’s mother was also courageous because she took responsibility in front of Waller to protect her loved ones. Bravery plays a role to abolition because without it, no one could stand up to the slave owners. That is why one of the themes is bravery.
Finally, the last theme of the story “Nightjohn” is to be cooperative with others.
Clel Waller used fear and punishment to control his slaves rather than getting along and understanding of them. If Waller rewarded good behavior to the slaves, things in the story plot would probably have changed. For example, when Nightjohn was trying to teach others, the slaves would start to see him as a threat rather than a hero. Instead the slaves wanted different treatment and helped and learned from Nightjohn. That is why being collegial and appreciating others is a theme of “Nightjohn”.
In denouement, there are many themes in “Nightjohn”. The themes of this story are leadership, getting along with others, and gallantry. You can use these themes in our lives to improve character. One way you can do this is to simply be humanitarian to those around you and do things what you think is right, even though you might feel uncomfortable. Matt then hears the bell and egresses to his sixth hour. Maybe next hour he can be a he can be little more like
