Michael Ramirez’s cartoon illustrates how political issues take a back seat in the wake of natural disasters. The scene depicted shows two men up to there neck in water holding picket fence signs that are no longer fully visible due to the water. The men are standing on a street corner with one sign Houston Rd visible. The second street sign is being blocked by the first and underneath the two signs is a stop sign half covered in water. Clearly based on the water and the street sign Houston Rd its obvious that the setting is Houston. The Hebrew teachings starts from Proverbs 12:24 (NKJV) “The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy will be put to forced labor.” My dad had a saying “A lazy man always works twice as hard.” It probably started from this Proverb. The Hebrew taught that if you worked hard and diligently you will be blessed compared to being lazy who is forced to labor. Forced doesn’t generally mean in this example as to being enslaved by chains, but that you would have no other choice but to get your hands dirty and accomplish want needs to be done. In contrast to a hard working person who actually enjoys the task at hand and in the end sees the fruits of his or her labor. Psalms 128:2 (NKJV) “When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.” It was always instructed that being a diligent worker was something God always favored and blessed. From the very beginning when Adam and Eve were kicked out of Eden; Adam toiled the ground and was blessed by it. Unfortunately it was a curse for our sins, Genesis 3:17 (NKJV) “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.” but in the long run it became a blessing for our hard work. Proverbs 12:11 (NIV) “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” We must work hard, be diligent, and be humble. In the end the Lord rewarded and condemned the good and faithful servant compared to the lazy servant. Mat 25:23 (NKJV) “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Mat 25:26 (NKJV) “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.” Jesus as well demonstrated…

“A large baseball stadium holds about 55,000 people. If everyone in that stadium were murdered, and if the stadium were filled up again five more times and all of those people were also murdered, what would still be less than the number of Jews killed at Chelmno alone.” (Feldman 220) Chelmno is the first extermination camp and the leading camp in the in-vans asphyxiation killing method that killed hundreds thousands of people in the Holocaust during World War II. Learning and understanding the holocaust, we would be able to know the brutality and inhumanity of the Nazi and to let it never happen again.…

    Mike Rose Essay

Mike Rose’s essay, “Entering the Conversation,” questions the prevailing methods of teaching college level literacy to under-prepared students. The core courses for incoming freshmen “have traditionally served to exclude working-class people from the classroom. It doesn’t, of necessity have to be that way” (12). Rose is trying to prove that an education in the humanities does not have to be exclusive or elitist. Just because remedial students lack literacy skills, it is not through a shortage of intelligence; rather, it is due to poor education and a lack of overall support.…

In today’s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan Sagmeister bridges the gap in the art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal, emotional, and deep art. While Sagmeister’s work encompasses a vast spectrum of mediums such as, album covers, logos, installations, and posters it is his philosophy on design that attracts one to his work:…
