Max Parks Monologue
“Get over here” the man yelled at the child on that cold December evening in 1985. As the boy unhappily trudged over to his father he was thinking about something far beyond reality, and that one thing was dinner. Even though they had cupboards of food he hadn’t had dinner or any meal for that matter for at least a couple weeks. “ Now you listen to me Max Parks”, the man said raising his hand high in the air, “ if you don't stop crying and moaning about food i will give you something to cry about”. As he said that he flung his hand down until it connected with the boys face. Instantly the 10 year old boy curled in a ball of pain as his father walked away to get another beer from the fridge.

“Why did you want to help back at the orphanage” Max asked with authority in his voice. “Well, I was your dad's neighbor when you were still a baby, I saw the way he abused you, so I kept a close eye on your dad. When i saw that you were so frightened, i felt like I could do something for you and I drove right next to the window so you can jump in my car.” It all seemed as a big pile of lies but somehow Max decided to believe it for the moment until he heard a better story. He wondered about so much; where they were going, if his dad was looking for him, if he was even safe, that thought of being safe from danger was soothing and made Max happy, even though he was in some random person's truck in the middle of the desert he was happy. Even though the past couple of days have been hectic and he will never do anything more crazy in his whole life, he was soothed. When they pulled up at a gate Max thought he was at a really fancy hotel, but it was Alina’s house. Her house on the outside had a stone wall with ivy growing on it in uneven patches Her driveway was lined with lights as if it was an airport runway. The front garden was beautiful, with statues and rose bushes, tulips and orange trees. It seemed like the garden of Eden had opened up on her front yard. “Wow did you do this all yourself”. “Yes this is my baby, I did it all on my own, I started it about 4 years ago and I just kept adding on to it”. “So why did you do it” the dumbfounded kid asked. Alina answered like a philosopher “It represents your life, you started as a little rose plant, as the years passed on, the soil started to become unable to support you, like your parents, you needed a gardener in your life so the gardener added some other plants and cared and watered them daily. “A couple

Bernie was an old man now and he knew it was beginning to show. Despite it being something that he had always promised himself he would never reach, he’d secretly known that ageing was inevitable and was therefore not a question of whether it would happen, but when it would happen. These were the thoughts passing nonchalantly through his head as he chose an unoccupied table and sat down, looking around the bar as he did so. What if his wife was still here, things would be so much more pleasurable and lively. She was the one in the relationship that provided the energy; with her gone he felt as if he was just an empty battery with nothing left to give.…

    Monologue From Goddamn

    • 1200 Words

Goddamn but I hated Sunday morning. Wakin’ up to the constant cursin’ and fightin’ of mother and father in the bedroom behind mine, gettin’ ready in their nice, neat freshly ironed clothes; as if that were enough to hide the plain of sins that abided within them. I’d turn over and turn up Duke Ellington until every note he bent on that there piano was just absolutely screamin’, and I’d bury myself deeper into the pillow to escape the voluminous life about me; but the walls were thin in our old place, and it wouldn’t be long before father come bustin’ through my door and lay his dirty ole’ bastard hands on me, and keep on keepin’ on till I was raw and blistered, and screamin’ just like Duke’s piano from the beatin’ he gave me. And then I’d too, get on my nice, lovingly tailored suit. The suit was blue, sharp lookin’ and well fitted, exactly the sort of thing that a woman would pick out for her man, and it was even the sort of somethin’ that’d make her a bit nervous too.…
