BY: JAMES PATTERSON The novel that I’ve read—Maximum ride: The Final Warning, by James Patterson is the fourth book in the series of Maximum Ride. The story is very detailed, and also very thrilling with an amazing climax. There are several main characters in this story: Iggy, Angel, Fang, Maximum—or Max, Nudge, Gasman—or as he preferred—Gazzy, and finally their dog—Total. Now these aren’t regular kids, and their dog isn’t very regular either. They were created in a lab, and had special abilities, but their major skill is that they all have wings, and they can all fly—except Total, his wings are still growing as he just got them. The flock—as they called their group has escaped from the lab they were originally created at called “The School”, and they were also unsure of their own ages. The story doesn’t have just one specific plot, but instead the author has made it very interesting, and the flock has travelled all around the world for safety reasons. However, in this particular novel, their main setting is in Antarctica. The flock travel to Antarctica to solve a major real life problem that still exists—global warming. In Antarctica the flock gets kidnapped and had been brought in Miami for evil purposes. As they escape from Miami, they find out that the city has been evacuated due to an expected category 4-5 hurricane—and it wasn’t even the hurricane season. Later on they find out that all this is due to global warming, and at the novel ends as Max—the flock leader—makes a public speech on global warming, with high security, so no one can capture them again.

This book along with its series is nothing like I’ve ever read, seen, or heard about, and that is the reason why this book is very interesting. However as reading this book, I’ve come to realize that this story has several connections, and relations with my personal life. Out of many of these personal experiences, the most common one is that just as the entire flock; I’ve had to face new challenges every single day.
During this ISU project, the most challenging part for me was ‘The Journal’. The main reason why this was challenging for me was because, when I mentioned the characters along with their backgrounds, and their challenges, it was challenging for me to not mention those certain challenges, and try not to expose the entire story, and the ending. Also it was challenging to talk about the book four of the series with the audience knowing about book one up till book three. To overcome this challenge, I simply thought of the story in the audience’s point of view, meaning that I wrote it in a way that the audience would find surprising, and exciting, which would make them want to read the book. Thinking as the audience was a huge help rather than thinking like a writer.
The one thing I was really prepared for was the book talk. And this is mostly because I thought it would be easier, and more dramatic to express myself about the novel, to an audience, which in hoping they would be interested in the book, and they would enjoy reading. The main strategy I used was really get into the detail, and really express myself to make it a bit more interesting. The other strategy I used for the book talk was preparing me for the public speaking. However, if I had to redo this ISU project, I would start sooner, and read the first novel in the series, instead of the middle book in the series.
