Maya Angelou Still I Rise
In the the poem “Still I Rise”, Maya Angelou demonstrates the power of overcoming obstacles in our lives. In the past few month I myself have gone through some difficulties and I’ve risen from some others I am still working on. Leaving New York was easy, it was who I left behind that made my transition to California so difficult. Being an out of state student really did take a toll on me not just financially but also emotionally. So one may be wondering if it causes so many difficulties why move across the country? It is actually quite simple, California has some of the best colleges in the country and I also yearn for adventure. When I was growing up most of my childhood consisted of moving around I never spent more than two years in a state except New York my mother and I always ended up there. Our family is widely spread out in the south east region of the country, but our immediate family resides in Long Island,New York. Moving from city to city took a huge hit to my …show more content…
Although I passed the exam, math came difficult to me, not being able to attend the third grade caused many problems with school. I had to work ten times harder than most of the kids in my class. At the age of ten, I knew that I'd always have to work hard in school once in high school working hard was like second nature to me, not just academically, but also physically. All of middle school and high school up to the tenth grade I was involved in lacrosse and track and field unfortunately in tenth grade I suffered an injury to the back. The injury didn't just affect me physically but also mentally I wasn't able to play the sports that I used to which crushed my dreams of attending Pace University to be part of their lacrosse
