Maya's Room Monologue Script
INT. MAYA’S BEDROOM – MORNING
MAYA BRADFORD is sprawled out on her bed sleeping, camera pans the room. Her alarm goes off, and she lifts her head suddenly. She looks over at her clock it says 7:00 am, she hits it off and smacks her face into her pillow. She looks peaceful until she hears a cry from the next room. Maya then gets up, sits on the edge of her bed rubbing her eyes. She makes her way to the next room.
INT. BABY’S ROOM
She enters the room where a tear-filled baby stands awaiting her, arms extended. She lifts her out of the crib and places her on the changing table.
MAYA
(Baby voice)
Wow… what a big mess you have made.
She quickly cleans up her daughter, LUCY and lays out clothes on the bed. She heads downstairs with Lucy and clothes in her arm. When she gets …show more content…
downstairs she puts the child down, and the baby runs into the living room.
INT. LIVING ROOM
MAYA
LUCY we need to get you changed, come here please.
Lucy runs under the coffee table trying to hide.
MAYA
(Firm Voice)
No no no! Lucy lets go, I have to get to work on time today.
Lucy stays under the table, Maya goes to grab her from under the coffee table.
LUCY
(Crying)
NO NO NO!
Maya grabs her, they wrestle to get Lucy’s clothes on. Lucy starts crying. Maya lifts Lucy up.
MAYA
(Apologetically)
Sorry baby, we have to go. We’ll play when you come back home, I promise.
LUCY
I Hungry.
MAYA
Daycare will feed you, Mommy’s got to get to work, I am going to be late again.
Maya grabs the diaper bag sitting on top of the coffee table, and rushes out of the house.
EXT. BRICK HOUSE ON A BUSY STREET- MORNING
She closes the front door and grabs her car keys from inside the bag. She locks the front door and heads down the porch stairs to her car. She unlocks her car with her key, hears the sound of a car opening. She opens the back seat door and puts a struggling Lucy in the car seat. She places the diaper bag underneath Lucy’s feet.
MAYA
(Firm voice)
Lucy! Stop squirming.
Lucy giggles, the car seat buckle CLICKS. Maya slams the car door shut and runs to the driver side. She gets in the car, starts the car, puts the car in reverse and backs out of her drive way. While coming to the end of the drive way she waits as cars go by.
MAYA
(Under Breath)
Come on, come on.
Finally, a spot opens for her to drive out, she pulls out, and places the car in drive.
EXT. BUSY STREET SORROUNDED BY BUILDINGS – MORNING
Maya is driving down a busy street, stuck in traffic. The clock says 8:03. She puts her left signal light on and turns left into a parking lot.
EXT. METAL BUILDING FILLED WITH WINDOWS- MORNING
Maya pulls into an empty parking spot and puts her car in park. Sign reads Little Tykes Daycare. She gets out of the car and walks around to grab sleeping Lucy in the back seat. She unbuckles her and picks up the sleeping Lucy. She then shuts door and heads into the daycare.
INT. A LARGE ROOM WITH MIRALS PAINTED ON WALLS
Maya enters the daycare and waves to the WORKER who was cleaning up spilled juice. The worker walks towards her smiling.
MAYA
(Soft and quiet)
Good morning.
WORKER
(Soft and quiet)
Good morning, how are you.
Maya looks down at Lucy fast asleep in her arms.
MAYA
(Quietly laughing)
I am alright, she had a pretty rough morning.
WORKER
(Quietly laughing)
Doesn’t she always.
Maya kisses Lucy on the head and hands her over Lucy to the Worker. She then turns and walks out of the daycare.
EXT. OUTSIDE DAYCARE- MORNING
Maya gets in her car, takes a deep breath and heads to her work.
INT. OFFICE FRONT DESK- AFTERNOON
Maya is tediously working. She looks at the clock it says 2:38. The phone rings and she picks it up.
MAYA
(Cheerful)
Hello, this is Dr.
Holbrocks office, how may I help you?
CALLER
(Tense tone)
Hello, may I speak to Maya Bradford?
MAYA
(Changed to concerned voice)
Yes, Maya speaking? Who am I speaking to?
CALLER
(Tense tone)
I am calling from Little Tykes Daycare, there has been an incident regarding your daughter Lucy.
MAYA
(Gasps)
What, what happened? Is she okay.
CALLER
No, she has gone missing from the building. People are searching for her, and we’ve notified the police, they are on there way.
MAYA
(Scared)
Okay, I’m on my way.
She hangs up the phone quickly, and turns to the RECEPTIONIST beside her.
MAYA
(Choking up)
I have to leave now, there is an emergency with my daughter, I have to go.
RECPETIONIST
(Concerned)
Yea it’s okay, go quickly. I’ll tell Dr. Holbrocks.
EXT. STRIP PLAZA AND A FILLED PARKING LOT- AFTERNOON
Maya leaves the desk and runs out the door. She reaches her car and grabs her keys from her pocket. She fumbles trying to find the right key and drops them on the ground. She quickly grabs them and unlocks the door. Quickly getting into her car, worry is spread across Maya’s face. She is trying to hold back tears.
EXT. DAYCARE PARKING LOT-
AFTERNOON
Maya quickly pulls in the parking lot; there are police cars everywhere and people all over the yard searching. Maya gets out of her car frantically. A POLICE MAN approaches her.
POLICE MAN
(Sincerely)
Hello, are you Maya?
Maya nods her head.
POLICE MAN (CON’T)
I am officer Legar, I need you to remain calm, we have a whole squadron looking for Lucy, and we will find her.
MAYA
(Smiling and nodding)
Yes, okay… Her favourite game is hide and seek this doesn’t surprise me.
POLICE MAN
(Laughing)
Well that’s ironic don’t you think.
EXT. DOWN THE STREET FROM THE DAYCARE- AFTERNOON
MAYA
(Yelling)
LUCY! LUCY! LUCY! Where are you, it is time to come out of hiding.
At the end of the street a young girl comes around the corner, a man trailing behind her. Her blonde hair shines as the sunlight reflects off it, and her rose cheeks were ones no one could miss. Maya spots her.
MAYA
(Choking up)
LUCY!
LUCY
(Cheerful)
MOMMY!
Maya runs down the street to embrace Lucy, the man comes up to her.
MAN
(Concerned)
Are you her mother?
MAYA
(Happy)
Yes, I am. She ran out from the daycare just down the street, we’ve been looking for over an hour for her.
MAN
(Relieved)
Oh okay great, I found her on my lawn hiding behind the bushes. I didn’t see her parents and asked her what she was doing. She said she was playing hide and seek. We were just going to the police station right now.
MAYA
(Chuckling)
She is a handful, thank you so much for finding her and staying with her.
Maya looked up and down at the man who was standing in front of her, admiring how handsome he was.
MAYA
I will have to do something to repay you.
MAN
(Jokingly)
Well I mean its not everyday I encounter such a pretty lady, would you like to grab a bite to eat?
MAYA
(Blushing)
Well I mean anything for the man who saved my daughter.
Maya looks around and realizes Lucy is not in sight.
MAYA
OH! Not again.
